Ok so let me just tell you what does and doesn't work.

I can get Verizon's DUN (#777) to work on my computer using my V3m as a modem via USB just fine. I also have a third party ISP that I can dial in to just fine via USB on my computer.

Now I just got a Palm TX, and would like to connect to the internet via bluetooth to my RAZR. I try Verizon's #777, and it only stays connected for a couple seconds if it does at all. I think I know why that is now, it is explained at this site: http://www.v710.org/mark/NoPapDun.htm

Now if I have to do that hack I might, but I would think that since my third party ISP just needs PPP, I shouldnt. Anyway I set my third party ISP up on my palm same as on my PC, and it dials and everything. The call stays connected for about a minute (the palm just says connecting the whole time), and then the palm says cancelling and that's it. The phone is still connected, but the palm just seems like it got uninterested. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

This is a well known problem with the palm T|X and any Verizion BT phone. I know it has been well discussed over at Brighthand (http://forum.brighthand.com/index.php). I own a V710 and had no trouble with the #777 DUN and my T3. Now my T|X disconnects as soon as data stops streaming (usually about a min or two into the internet session).

The only work around that anyone has come up with is to have a streaming app in the background (such as ptunes deluxe) which constantly pulls data. Then you can surf the net w/o dropping the connection.

You are supposed to pay $60 to get the service, but the linking site discusses how to get around it.

You are suppose to pay $60 for high speed phone DUN connection. The #777 is using the QNC or 1Rxx network which is far from the high speed option. The service is not illegal. Everything that has been discussed here is definately on the up and up.

The method that this is billed is often discussed though. Many people have only been charged minutes (MOU=minutes of use). This has even been reported by Verizon sales reps. Then there was some discussion that only when you "abused" the MOU billing were you charged per MB. And a few stated that they are always charged per MB.

There is a HUGE thread on billing of this feature over at howardforums (a sticky in the Verizon sub forum).

Yeah I didn't mean to stire any trouble. First off tethering to Verizon's DUN (#777) is a heated debate and considered against their TOS for their newer EVDO phones. I understand that, but my real question was about why my PDA will not connect to my third party ISP using my razr as a modem (a method not supported by verizon I guess, but not illegal).

Again I did it today tethering my phone to my laptop via usb, and it dialed and after 23 seconds or so windows sent my authentication stuff and I was online. I tried it via BT to the razr (which even took a few tries and different options), and it would dial fine, and at about 28 seconds the phone would beat, but nothing would change. The TX just disconnected itself after about a minute or so.

EDIT: DRAGONSGAMES I just realized you were referring to that PAP link on Mark's website. A mod can take it out if they really don't want it. I should have just explained about PPP vs. PAP I guess, but I just let the site do my talking for me. My apologies.
