View Full Version : Help - Buttons Malfunctioning!

Can someone help me?
My Sony Clie TG-50 was working fine up until a couple of days ago, then all the sudden a bunch of the buttons started malfunctioning.
If it was just one button it would be a different story, but right now when I press the "Up" button (on the Up & Down toggle) the power to my clie turns off. When I press the "Home" button once it takes me to the phonebook, and if I hold it down it goes to "Beaming - Searching...", and when I press the "Graffiti" button it goes to the Memo Pad (starting a new memo and entering the letter 'K').
Does anyone have any idea why this might have happened, and more importantly how I can fix it?

Have you tried a soft or hard reset?

I have done a soft reset several times.
Unfortunetely I cannot perform a hard reset because that requires the uses of the "UP" button (on the Up/Down toggle). I tried, and when it said to press UP I did, but nothing happened.
Is there another way to perform a hard reset? What if I just remove the battery? Will that do it?

Yes, try removing the battery for an hour or two.

I opened the clie and detached the battery, which did cause my clie to do a hard reset (ie. all of the information has been deleted), but the buttons are still performing the same (incorrect) functions. I will try detaching the battery again and leaving it detached for a longer amount of time, but I don't think this is going to solve the problem.

Nope. I left the battery unplugged for a while...then plugged it back in.
Still having the same problem. Any other advice you can give, other than buying a new pda?

Did you secure the connection on the pcb?

What is the "connection on the pcb"?
And how do I go about securing it?
And how could it have become un-secured in the first place?

Try contacting Chris Short. He's fixed all my broken PDAs. PM me for his info :) (he is cheap, too)

I never opened my TG50 before I sold it, but there has to be some connection between the keyboard and the circuit board. Either that, or the button medium between the buttons and the buttons on the pcb is not aligned correctly. As I have said, I have not opened a TG50 before, but I think it's the same as the Tungsten W and C and Treos.

Just a stupid idea : remap your keyboard with keyquick.

try a demo version of KQ fisrt.
