Hi All,
Just got me SJ22 and love it. I also have a 128meg Memory Stick and have some questions...
1) When I use MSGate to move a game from internal to the MS, the icon for the game disappears from all categories and is unplayable until I move it back to the internal memory...what am I doing wrong?
2) Some things show a LOCK icon, and won't allow me to move it to the MS, is there any way to unlock it and move it?
Any details about using a MS would be helpful! Thank you!
Dave
1. When you put apps in MS, they need to be in /Palm/Launcher directory.
2. If they are ROM apps or files, you can't and you won't anyway if you don't want to crash your system and get into deeper trouble. I ditched MSGate and replaced it with McFile and/or FileZ for the access inhibit reason (lock). But you need to undestand what you are doing before moving stuff around.

Thanks for the quick reply....
Ok, I moved AcidFreeCell as a test to the MS in the PALM/LAUNCHER folder....
Now I can see the Icon for the game, but when I click on it, it says not enough memory.....weird, considering its the only thing on a 128 megs stick....
any ideas?
Thanks
PS - What does VFS stand for?

Virtual File System.
MSGate can get easily messed up. Since you still have practically nothing in the MS, why don't you try format it and transfer the app again. Then check if the problem repeats.

Ok, I'll try that...
Can you give me an idea of what program should go in what folder?
Like games go in palm/launcher
whats the palm/programs/msfiles folder for?
Thanks!

I formatted it, now the launcher folder is gone, and won't let me re-create it....
Now I have:
/PALM/PROGRAMS/MSFILES
and that's it....
When I browse to /PALM and try to create a "Launcher" folder, it says : "Current folder is access inhibit"
WTF?

Do you know about MS Import? If you haven't done it yet, install MSExport from the CD. Then, make sure your Clie is attached to the computer, and choose "MSImport." When the connection is made, you should be able to see the MS on your computer as another drive. You can now use it like any other drive/folder. If you want to create /PALM/Launcher, do it there.
MSFiles is where databases are put; for instance, if you want to save documents on the MS, that's where they'll go. (Music will be put into an "MSAudio" folder that it will create when you put music on there). The Launcher folder is where the Clie looks for executable programs when you pull up the MS category in the Clie "home" screen. Does that help?

That makes sense....
I'll have to try that, my CD is at home - so I'll do it over the weekend...
So I'm assuming, once I do all that, and put the Launcher folder back....all I have to do is MOVE stuff from internal to MS (to the launcher folder) and they will work right from the MS....right?
Cool - thanks!
Another way of creating the MS directories is to install FileZ (http://palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=03C08A86-27C3-4F5D-B53D1A00925D90FA&prodID=9992) or McFile. I like FileZ since it is free. You can make your own directory in Clie rather than via MSImport & Windows Explorer in PC. But I have done both ways which ever more convinient at the time.
Here are the different types of directories in my MS:
/DCIM/100MSDCF/
/Palm/Books/
/Palm/Backup/
/Palm/Launcher/
/Palm/PiDirect/
/Palm/Programs/Bbvfs/
/Palm/Programs/DXTG/
/Palm/Programs/gMovie/
/Palm/Programs/HRCapt/
/Palm/Programs/McFile/
/Palm/Programs/MemoRu/
/Palm/Programs/MiD/
/Palm/Programs/MSAudio/
/Palm/Programs/MSDict/
/Palm/Programs/PictureGear/
/Palm/Programs/QuickOffice/
And I make my own directory:
/Palm/Archive/
To store old apps that I don't want to show up in Clie, but don't want to delete them, yet, either.

Downloaded FILEz....
IT WORKS!!! IT WORKS!!!!!
THANK YOU!!!
:)
BTW, if you don't want to see an app to show on the screen, you can hide it with FileZ by selecting the app, tap 'Details' and 'Attributes', put a check on the box next to 'Hidden', tap 'Save' and 'Done'.
