View Full Version : Sync files to any SD directory?
Does anyone know a conduit that can perform a file sync between selected files on the PCs hard disk and files on any location on the Palm's SD card?
For example during every hotsync the follwoing files are synchronised:
D:\dir1\xyz.doc <-> SD-Card\dirA\xyz.doc
C:\dir2\abc.wav <-> SD-Card\dirB\abc.wav
Does anyone have an idea? :confused:

If you're running on an XP, SyncToy will soothe your needs :) just download it over at the windows site or just google it. it's FREE!
Thanks for the tip, bulls96. The tool you mentioned works for XP, but what I was thinking of is a tool that performs this task during a hotsync of my T3 (with Win XP).
Any other ideas from anyone? :confused:

This will not solve the problem as you would but it is a work around.
Using Card Reader (www.mobile-stream.com) your palm will be seen as a "real" card reader so it will be possible to use SyncToy to synchronize yor files between the hard disk and the removable disk.

An alternative to SyncToy is SyncBack. It is also more pwerful and still free. The only app that will hotsync files to a directory on your card is PInstall. You designate where you want files to go on your card in the prefs. This is best for installing new apps (when using it you do a hotsync and only application installs take place - like disabling all other conduits).
I personally prefer the SyncBack/CardExport II combination (cardexport II rather than cardreader because Syncback can automatically disconnect the source or destination when the sync profile has finished, but cardreader doesn't register this disconnect properly because of the background feature - i believe). I use cardreader when I do it manually, and cardexport when it is scheduled.
Thank you, cyberdude, for this hint. I already use card export and a sync tool called SynchromagicPRO. The point is that I would like to pick a collection of distinct files from different directories and syncronize them to another directory structure in my Palm's SD card. I think that hotsync can be an ideal oportunity to perform such a task. May be there is a software that automatically starts after a hotsync operation or anything else....

Not sure if I am talking about the same thing. In Resco Explorer, under associations, you can choose a HotSync direct path. I don't know why, but it isn't working for me (never saves the settings and always goes back to the defaults).
Thanks for this tip. First I was thinking about similar methods, but you always end up with all files of one type (e.g. TXT) in one single path. Moreover I doubt, if you can sync files back to the PC that you changed on the Palm.

Not helpful for you, but for Mac users MissingSync includes mark/Space Folder Sync. Allows you to select any folder on your HD to sync with any folder on any card in your handheld.
So I have to buy a Mac to get this functionality?
No similar solution for Win XP? :confused:

Not sure if this will be of any help, but there are 2 apps that will launch any app after a hotsync. Aftersync (I think it is still freeware), and OnLaunch ($5 USD). OnLaunch is more powerful in that it has setting for just about everything. Before and after hotsync, as well as connector attach/detach, card insert and pop, restart(resets), resume(after sleep).
Thanks for the hint. This is what I have been doing: After Hotsync I start Card Export automatically.
But still I miss a similar solution on the PC side. Do you have any ideas how to start a Windows Programm after hotsync automatically?
