This week we go over the latest Palm news including Palm's end of FY06 earnings report, what the settlement with Xerox means, and my thoughts about running Linux on a LifeDrive. [details (http://www.1src.com/?m=show&id=1602)]

Installing Linux on your Lifedrive??? What a geek... lol, kidding.
When I had an iPod photo I installed linux on it to play video with no sound (using ipod linux) had the same text scrolling on my iPod's screen, the things we do because we can:)

Great podcast.

thanks for an interesting show. 2 questions:
1. if Palm is not interested in handhelds why would it develop Grafitti 3? Can it be used on a Treo?

2. You mentioned NVBackup and exporting. How do you set up the FTP for a TX of T5?

1. if Palm is not interested in handhelds why would it develop Grafitti 3?

Remember that mini-tablet I kept talking about last year? What if they did a TX/Treo mash up and put a cell radio in a TX-like case? There wouldn't be a keyboard, and people would be able to use the old Graffiti style 'T' again? That would be really cool. And I believe that Palm is developing something more than a regular "handheld" and not exactly a "smartphone". I don't have any evidence of this except that Palm has indicated before that they are still going to make handhelds, just not releasing them in the same cycles they have in the past.

Can it be used on a Treo?

The Graffiti 2 libraries are loaded into the ROM of the Treo 600 and 700p. I haven't checked a Treo 650, but I'm willing to bet that they are there. You can use a third-party utility like Graffit Anywhere to activate Graffiti on a Treo.

2. You mentioned NVBackup and exporting. How do you set up the FTP for a TX of T5?

That is a great question Bill! I'll cover it in the 1SRC podcast 84. It will be a live demo if you will. If you have a Palm that has NVFS and Internet/network access to an FTP server you can store a backup remotely.

Alan, you're on to something with the tablet with a cell radio. Look at Nokia's 770 internet tablet OS update which now gives you googletalk so you can do VOIP.
