Does anyone know if it's possible to run any navigation software on the NZ90 with a CF GPS card?

I'm getting a great price on the NZ90, but wanted to use a pda for navigation too. So if it's impossible to do it, i won't be getting the NZ...

But since i love the looks and especially the price, it's well worth the wait for anyone to answer this question.

So, anyone experienced with GPS navigation on NZ90??

Cheers!

hey Mark, why dont you register first and come back! Most folks here would pass you for an Ipaq user !!

anyway, to answer your question, it doenst work (yet) no CF drivers available for NZ except for the CF wireless lan card by Sony.

Mark,

I am itching to pick up a GPS for my NZ90, At this point my pick looks like the Wireless Bluetooth unit, because it allows me to leave my memory stick in place for maps and other data. It is going to cost you a little less than $400. You toss the GPS in your back pack and it transmit to your Clie via Blue Tooth. To me this si the cleanest solution. There is also a GPS Memory Stick, but only one off brand software will work with it. sooo. besides it would occupy the only Memory Stick slot on my Clie,, then where do I put my music while hiking.

This piece of news (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9719) caught my eyes a couple of weeks ago. Interesting review (http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/tips/GPS/mapopolis.htm) at pdabuyersguide.com
It's an (wired) option, though USD200 less than the bluetooth gps.
The Emtac (http://www.mobileplanet.com/product.asp?dept%5Fid=2310&pf%5Fid=MP731380&mscssid=QU7AGKWRDG9M8JFSD98E59F8N99PBTC1) bluetooth gps as Bo mentioned is cool (it's USD369.99 btw), and somebody at the Wireless thread had posted his experience on using it if i recall correctly, just do a search.

I just wish that Mapopolis will offer international maps in future other than just the North American edition (some European maps available).

There's no CF gps option as yet for the NZ90 (or NXs) but i do believe it's a matter of time before someone comes up with the drivers given the remarkable breakthrough of the CF memory cards driver by ayasin.

I guess another important feature for a GPS software would be the ability to easily scan my paper maps and align them with the right cordinates.

That would make the GPS practical for hiking and sailing by using available paper maps. anyone have experience with this...?

can anyone confirm that the emtac gps is made by socket?

I think it is the other way around, it is probably re-labled by socket and sold for pocket-pc's

Well, that would definitely be cool, but I hope you don't consider that feature TOO important because not only does it not exist now, it's really unlikely to exist at any time in the near future!

Could someone update when they have tested the emtac gps module?

Bo_,
GPS Pilot has the ability to scan and index maps. Also Delorme is due out with a revamped XMap program. It will be hi-res finally and you can import any Delorme maps with it.
To the original poster, GPS signal is a line- of-sight deal. With the CF slot on the bottom, you'd have to hold it upside down to get good reception.... I doubt that any of the CF GPS manufacturers will right drivers anyway.

Perhaps (it's really hard to tell from their web site), but otherwise it's a pretty useless system UNLESS you can conveniently connect your Clie to the Internet at any time.

GPS Pilot doesn't keep maps on your device. For example, the routing software (listed at $30 on the main page, the price jumps to $39.95 when you try to buy it)works like this: you enter the starting and ending addresses you want a route to, and your Clie then connects to the Internet where their servers compute the route and download a map of ONLY THAT ROUTE to your device.

There doesn't appear to be any way to keep multiple routes on the device. And of course you can't simply drive around with a GPS and watch your position on the map.

Unless you have a Bluetooth phone, this software's useless.

Well, for hiking it might be useful, the one software on the GPS Pilot site positively seem to be focused on importing a GIF, BMP or JPEG to your Memory Stick, and it have a elabroate scheeme for calibrating the imported map image.

http://www.gpspilot.com/MapsModule.htm

Besides at only $15 I think it is well worth trying out. As for the online directions.... I agree with you... useless unless one have a permanent internet connection when getting lost.

I want to get a bluetooth gps unit and use it with my nz90, but I want to put the NZ90 in a cradle while I use it. My question is are there any good car cradles you guys know of? All the ones I've seen are "universal".

Universal= looks like crap becuse it's too big and more than likely designed for something else so it will block all of your buttons and slots and will more than likely render your clie useless as far as all practicality is concerned. And will need to be super glued or nailed to your windsheild with railroad spikes and a lot of other crap that makes you wonder what the person was thinking when he claimed it would work with your NZ90.
