Help a new Palm TX owner out....

I am the proud owner of a new Palm TX. Being a bit of a sucker for eye candy, I want to upgrade the GUI as the default one is a little bland.

I must admit that I am quite confused with all of the options out there but there are four pieces of software that keep popping up.

I have done a lot of reading over the last few days and things are still not getting any clearer.

Can someone please describe the differences between each of the following pieces of software and whether or not they are doubling up on each other. Essentially, I want to buy the software I need to make the GUI look the best I can....I really like the Vista theme by the way :) .

The pieces of software I have found are MySkin, ZLauncher, Palm Revolt and SkinUI.

Now i will definitively recomend MySkin, PalmRevolt and SkinUI. Here is why:

-MySkin: it changes the Status Bar, there are many many skins that you may want to try. I see u like the Vista skin, there are some other good skins in the freeware section of this page. Here. (http://www.1src.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=1013)

-PalmRevolt and SkinUI: both run without problems on my TX, and i havent read some bad reports from both apps. I am new to the palm world with the TX as well so i cant tell that well. But for what i know for skinning (i used to mod my XP in my old lap to look like a Mac) they complement each other very well. Look this (http://www.1src.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=1010) and this (http://www.1src.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=1013) and look the title bars (top) they look different, u get this trick using both apps with different skins, cuz just one is not possible. Ther you can also see that the statusbar is skined with MySkin.
But i think that something that helps A LOT is the icon package. I use IconsPlus to change them.

Now with ZLauncher, i personaly dont use it. As u can see i use the default launcher + Hi-Launcher. But that is up to you... Maybe someone else can tell you more about that launcher.

MySkin changes the DIA area (the graffiti area where you write and the little status bar directly underneath it).

SkinUI and PalmRevolt essentially do the same thing as each other. They both pretty up the OS controlled elements such as dialog boxes, scroll bars, buttons, etc.

ZLauncher is just a replacement launcher (the place from where you run all the apps). It's special because it can have its own backgrounds, elements, etc., that can all be changed via ZLauncher skins.

I personally use MySkin and Zlauncher on my TX. I sometimes load up SkinUI. Last time I did a comparison between SkinUI and PalmRevolt, SkinUI appeared noticably faster (this was right after 1.2x of SkinUI came out, and I haven't done any testing between them since).

Don't overlook FontSmoother. I can do without a skin or a launcher, but smooth fonts make everything else look better.

Go with either Palm Revolt or SkinUI, but not both as they do pretty much the same thing. You can't go wrong with ZL as it's updated often and plenty of skins to pick from. Also MySkin is a must buy to change your DIA and status bar.

Thanks for all the info guys. It is starting to make sense now. Thanks also for the tip on FontSmoother....I will look into it.

I am definitely going to get ZLauncher and MySkin. I also like what both Palm Revolt and SkinUI do but I only want to get one and I am not sure of the differences....apart from SkinUI being a bit cheaper. I see also SkinUI has a new version coming out soon but it seems to be very secretative on what the changes are.

Can anyone shed some light on which one might be a better for a Palm TX owner who also intends to run ZLauncher and MySkin?

And since you guys are so knowledgable and helpful, I have one more question for you. I have come across AppIcon and IconsPlus. What do these do? Do I even need them assuming I end up running ZLauncher, MySkin and either Palm Revolt or SkinUI?
