I always liked the idea of the newton, but I couldn't think of a real use for it. What kind of apps does it run?

I found this

http://www.nsbasic.com/newton/info/technotes/cable.html

http://www.jneuhaus.com/applserl.html

No idea if they work but could be fun to have a try

Nope!

The last of the line was the Message Pad 2000 with an external keyboard but no color screen. At the time, they seemed quite small. Today they're huge!

Anyway, nice devices altogether! Hope Apple picks up were it left sometime soon.

Hey, maybe someday they will. They have iSync, an iOrganizer would work great.

Perhaps. Unfortunately for all of us poor souls loving PDA's, chances are Apple is more likely to build a Smartphone rather than a nice, powerful and no-nonsense PDA.

I mean, it's nice to have device convergence but it definitely sucks when it compromises sheer computing power. Jack of all trades, master of none!

MacRumors.com had an article about the possibility of Apple moving into the ultra mobile pc market. If they did I think it would be amazing!

Who knows, perhaps there'll be something before the end of the year.

No, there were no color Newtons. The last model was the MessagePad 2100 before SJ came back to Apple and axed the whole thing.

Check out www.newtontalk.net for a community of still active Newton users.

That'll be great!

I can only hope for a UMPC that kicks the a** out of Sony's shameful attemp.

Let's all cross our fingers.

BuRnN,
I'm getting in a little late here, but you should be able to track down the Newton Connection Kit for Windows (I have a binary squirrled away if you need). You'll also need a serial cable, not sure where to pick one of them up.
I had a MP110, then a 2000 and had it upgraded to a 2000u (equivalent of a MP 2100 - when Newton was its own company; before Jobs brought them back into Apple and killed them). They are certainly nice devices, and I still have my 2000u running here.

Sorry I'm late to the party. Here's what I found, as I'm having the same issue with my MessagePad 2100. I'm going to try the modem2modem connection later today.

Also, the Newton Connection Utilities is a bastard to track down, so here it is.
