For the past two days I've had this problem with my Lifedrive - When I open the hotsync program it lags on a blank white screen for two-three minutes, lags with a white screen if I go to the menus to look at my hotsync options, then takes a really long time to connect to my PC and the hotsync operation is slower than usual as well. Sometimes it seems to be frozen altogether but I hit the "home" button and it snaps out of it. No other program on the PDA has this slow-down.

I have read a few things online about programs which conflict with hotsync, but I have not recently installed any new programs or done anything special that I think would cause a problem. I've had three Palms and I usually can figure it out but I'm really  this time. Does anyone have an idea what I could do?

I have the following programs installed, along with all the preinstalled stuff:
1st Aid
A+ Calc
A5 Agenda
Address XT
Symantec Antivirus
Avant Go
Bejeweled2
Bounce Out
Converter
Documents to go 8
Earthcomber
Epocrates
Filez
Flash Player
Folder Folies
FreeJongg
Idea Pad
Insaniquarium
Memoria
Moose
PDA Check
Pinballz2
Pordic
Bible Promises
Sea War
Splash - ID, Money, Shopper
Teapot
Tetris
Text Twist
TipQuik
Verichat
WatchM

Have you tried soft/hard resseting the device?

Get rid of Symantec Antivirus, there are no Palm Virus in the wild. If it works correctly it should be active, slowing down the Hotsync.

The antivirus never gave me a problem before, but anyway, I have to have it as per my company's rules so that's not an option.

Whoa, I reset it and like has happened before, it started to loop reset, which scared the heck out of me bc I don't want to have to reinstall everything, but then it kicked in nicely and all works good.

Question: If you performed a soft-reset right now, would it go into a reset loop?

Reset loops are caused by bad applications that generate some sort of fault during the reset process. Normally, during the reset process, every application is notified that a reset just occurred. If an application generates a fault during this time, the device starts the reset again. Normally to get out of this one performs a firm-reset (a.k.a. warm-reset, or no-notify-reset), deleting the errant application, and then soft resetting. A firm-reset is done by holding the up arrow button while performing a soft-reset; on NVFS devices (including the LD) continue holding the up button until the second splash screen appears. The main problem with this is figuring out what the bad application is.

Re: Symantec Antivirus.

Has Symantec Antivirus for Palm OS been updated any time recently? It still might be an incompatibility between it and the LD. I know it is not a choice because of the corporate drones, but you could remove it temporarily to see if it is the problem. If it is not the problem, put it back. If it is not the problem, put it back but then start looking for alternatives that will keep the drones happy. (Note: With FULL backups to the desktop, the Desktop Symantec Antivirus will catch the few existing Palm OS viruses if set to scan all files. Note: The default Hotsync backup conduit is not a full backup.)
