I apologize in advance for the cross posting (i.e., in both Clie-mac and in NX series forum). I meant to post it here in the Mac forum, but accidentally posted in the NX forum first. Anyway, here's my question pasted from my other post:

Just got the NX70V from overstock.com at a great price. I have missing sync 3.0.5 installed on a 15" TiBook 1GHz running OS X 10.2.5. Hotsyncing with Palm Desktop works perfectly, but my memory sticks won't mount on the desktop. I'm not sure if it's related or not, but the memory sticks WILL mount just fine in my Sony DSC-P7 digital camera. Does anybody have any ideas on how to get the Clie to mount the MS properly?

Memory sticks mount OK on my 550 TiBook running missing-Sync 3.05 and 10.2.5.

Fire up iTunes and see if you can see the Clié in the source pane.

Thanks for the reply, but nope - still no luck. The only way my memory sticks will mount is if they're in my digital camera. They don't appear in the source list with iTunes. My Clie NX70 will just hang on the MS import screen until I disconnect it from the cradle. Unfortunately, markspace support hasn't been much help either. I guess I'll just wait for some sort of fix unless anyone else has some other ideas.

Have you tried formatting the card in the Clié to see if it will mount?

Yeah, that was one of the 1st things I tried. I am at a complete loss.

Is it a genuine Sony Memory Stick?

Here's something strange. This happened to me on more that one occassion. My memory stick sometimes doesn't mount via my USB reader. So I have to rename the card by some other means (put it in another machine), then it mounts perfectly. This may or may not solve your problem, but it can't hurt to try.

You can also try opening the Console on OS X and seeing if anything posts there when you start up MS import or Audio Player transfer on the CLIE. You may get an error that tells you what the problem may be.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, the memory stick is sony brand. I just tried renaming the stick when mounted in my digital camera, but was unable to do so for some reason. I also launced console. Nothing came up when hitting the "connect" command in MS Import. However, when using iPhoto and my digital camera the following was displayed:

Apr 21 20:49:25 /sbin/autodiskmount[180]: disk2s1 msdos no yes T16 [not mounted]

Apr 21 20:49:26 /sbin/autodiskmount[180]: disk2s1 msdos no yes T16 /Volumes/T16

## Component Manager: attempting to find symbols in a component alias of type (regR/carP/x!bt)
## Component Manager: attempting to find symbols in a component alias of type (regR/carP/x!bt)

I have no idea what this means. Any thoughts?

I have just seen a mention (I think on macfixit.com, I can't find it now!) that there may be a problem with certain CF cards and Memory sticks in OS X. They refered to a knowledgebase article at Apple.com .

Try doing a search there.

I had that problem because I had a CF card in my cf slot. I took that out and then tried to mount the memory stick again and worked like a charm.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't have any CF cards so that wouldn't be it. I just sent some kextstat and console info to markspace. I'll let you know if they can figure anything out. Any other ides are appreciated in the meantime.

Thanks for researching that link. It's actually posted on MarkSpace's FAQ's section and has already been tried without success.

Since I first posted, the tech support over at markspace has kicked up their efforts and I've been working pretty closely with one of the programmers. He actually said they've gotten many reports of similar problems, but thinks they might be moving closer to a fix. I'll keep you posted.

Give thanks to Scott over at markspace who worked his tail off to figure out at least a temporary fix. After many diagnostics, it was a rather simple one. At his suggestion, I uninstalled a Logitech driver for my MouseMan Dual Optical Mouse, restarted, and everything worked perfectly!

There were a few intermediate steps, such as intsalling a beta of 3.0.6 and running an installer he made to modify part of the missing sync driver, but I'm not sure if it was the combination of these steps, or simply uninstalling the Logitech driver that did the trick.

It's only a preliminary fix at this point, and I'm sure something more permanent will come out of all this. Hope this helps others who may have had the same problem. If I get any more information directly from the markspace programmer's, I'll keep you all updated.

At this point, I believe that simply uninstalling the Logitech driver will solve the problem (at least in your case). The extra installer I sent only removed support for the NZ series. I'm going to do some testing tomorrow to see what the Logitech driver is doing. Personally even though I have a Logitech trackball on both of my machines, I never bothered installing the drivers.

I don't use the Logitech drivers either. I use USBOverdrive - excellent!

I've installed the Logitech driver (downloaded yesterday) on 2 machines and Memory Stick mounting works fine with the CLIE NZ90 I have. One machine (a PowerBook G4/800) has a Logitech Cordless TrackMan Wheel and the other machine (a G4/500 dual processor) has a Logitech TrackMan Marble Wheel.

Therefore, I'm not convinced that the Logitech drivers do cause a problem; however, I'd suggest that others that are having problems try to uninstall other "driver" software to see if there is a conflict. On my PowerBook, I have a bunch of drivers loaded and a bunch of USB devices; with this, I haven't seen a problem. However, someone may have a different combination or a different driver that may be interfering.

Definitely contact Mark/Space if you are still having a problem and we'll see what we can figure out.
