Is the Zire 72s battery the same as the ones in the Tungsten line?

Exactly the same!

T, T2, T3 and Z72 use the same batt. If you're in the market for one, go to gethightech.com or batteryvalues.com I've got nice service from the latter.

Nope! According to gethightech.com which retails both, they are the same.

so, i've had my zire72 for about a year now, and the battery life has started to pretty much suck.
is there a way to replace the internal battery with a higher mAh one? same form factor, same size, but higher mAh?

just wondering if anyone's found anything.

CERTAINLY!

buy something like this

http://cgi.ebay.com/1100mAh-PALM-Zire-71-72-M550-T1-T2-T3-BATTERY-MANU-TOOL_W0QQitemZ140006084420QQihZ004QQcategoryZ130791QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

open up the zire and swap!

alright to open the zire.

take out the two torx screws at the bottom, take off the sticker with the serial number thing, there will be a screw, take it out, then the mesh will come off, then there are two more screws at the top. remove them.

u r done!

legodude522 has a tut of it at palminfcoetner.com

Yeah, I thought so. I just wanted to make sure. I got a few TT batteries from chopped units and put 'em in my 71's so I think I'll toss in an 1100mah (best I could find on eBay) in the 72s.

ok, so the standard zire72 battery is 950mah, and the new one is 1100 mah. so i can just swap them out? no damage to the pda if i do it right?

also, will i see significantly better battery life?

not SUPER SIGNIFICANT, but, ya, what i would do, would be.

1. open pda. i explained how already.

2. disconnect old battery.

3. remove old battery, i think double sided tape will be holding it down.

4. did i mention this will void ur warranty AND cause a HARD RESET? InnerBackup, google the program, make a backup before you do battery changing.

5. insert new battery

6. reassemble zire 72.

7. In cradle reset for...eh...for me? well i would just let it go for like 24 hours.

done.

other battery saving tips.

Full Power, google it, nice program. I pull the voltage down to 3.50.

PXA clocker, i run my pda at 182mhz.

and on full power i enable the super low backlight settings, so i run my backlight pretty low.

and get a car charger. very useful. o ya, turn of Beam Receive and Bluetooth if you aren't using them.

Romeol, in cracking the case I had problems at the top. In struggling with it I inadvertantly lifted the mother board. There is a cut out on the board to accomodate the camera. When I put it back together the board was not all the way down at the top, it was resting on the top of the camera and I didn't see that. When I screwed it back together I saw I had problem 'cause the camera was bulged out. The result was that I busted the IR module off the board, and though a electronic tech at work soldered it back on for me the IR no longer works. Boy do I miss that. Just be careful that the board is down all around the camera if it does lift up on you.

i needed to bump this and ask what batteries to buy for my Zire 72S? I see someone posted earlier in the thread about a battery on ebay, but that auction doesn't exist and i cant see what the battery was.

also, are there any reputable online services where you can mail them your device and have them replace a battery? i'm nervous about cracking mine open and doing it on my own.

so what battery do i need and should i send it off or do it myself? not the most mechanically inclined :(
