Got a couple things i need assistance with.....
I use my Palm for nursing school. This past semester i went a few weeks without using it and evidently ran the battery down. So now i went to use it again and there's a couple things i need help with.
#1. When it completely runs the battery dead, does it erase all programs the user installs? All my nursing software is gone.
#2. My biggest issue is my hot sync won't work. When i connect it and try to sync it, it won't connect and gives me a message saying it can't sync. Why is this? I've triple checked and everything is connected correctly and should be in working order. So why won't it sync? Any troubleshooting ideas?
#3. When i do get the sync to work, do i need to manually install all the software again that was erased? I still have it on my computer, is that all i need to do?
Thanks for the help :)

On devices with OS5.2 and lower draining the battery will erase all data; this applies to Zire, Zire 21 and Zire 31. The Z22 has NVFS and will not lose data.
I am assuming you are using a Windows PC, probably running XP Home. When you look at your system tray by the clock, is there a hotsync icon in it? If no, Click on Start, All Programs, Palm, Hotsync Manager. You should then see the icon in the system tray. Try a sync.
If no happiness, try plugging the sync cable into USB0, which is the USB slot connected to your computer's motherboard. USB slots connected to the front of computers, on unpowered hubs, and on laptop keyboards sometimes do not have enough power to sync.
If still no happiness, please provide more information on your computer setup and exactly the error message.
When you successfully sync to your existing Hotsync Name, the software will detect the data loss and will perform a restore synchronization. It is important to charge and sync regularly. If your handheld model is one with an SD card slot, I recommend looking into a Backup application, such as BackupMan or Resco Backup.
Good luck.

thanks for the reply.
i'm using a Zire 72s with WinXP. I have the sync cable connected directly to the motherboard usb port.
I made sure the sync icon was in the system tray and still no go. The error message i get says " The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."
I'm making sure i'm syncing with the cradle/cable and not a modem either. I do have a sd card, but it was seperate that i bought to add more programs.

Try reinstalling Palm Desktop, sounds like the usbdriver got chewed up by Windows.

I have this problem on the computer I'm on. this happens on particularly old or slow computers (like pentium mmx [under 300mhz]) I have to keep trying constantly to get it to sync. It could also be the problem of having maybe a bad USB port. Try another computer if possible. I also have a Zire 72s.. but i dont sync anymore, i just got Card Export 2 from softick.com and i Like it much better than syncing. and yes you will always lose all data when your battery completly dies, which is why it's best to keep everything on a SD card.
