Hello,
Quite frequently one application or another will force my lifedrive to reset.when it does so the applications I've got which I registered with a serial number become trial versions again and I have to re-input the serials.I've got about 20 of these and it takes forever to do it.
I now live in fear of resets.I've got sharkcache, which REALLY makes the lifedrive more usable, but sometimes this causes a reset.
Can anyone suggest how I can get round this?
Thanks
Sally

Try PrefDoctor (http://www.hobbyistsoftware.com/PrefDoctorDocumentation.php) , it is made especially for this!

if you use a backup program, which im sure you do, from the restore list, select Saved Preferences and Unsaved Preferences. Restore both and this should update if not all, then mostly all of your apps.

Pro's and Cons (in my view):

Manually restoring from backup:
-the backup is never really up to date, so if you changed preferences in any app after the last backup, these changes are gone
-you have to perform some manual steps
+no need to install extra software
+it works

PrefDoctor:
-you have to buy the app
-an extra app installed on your device
-don't know if it works or has bugs (haven't tried it as, luckily, I don't have problems after a reset)
+should do exactly what you need
+set and forget, no manual steps required

This has happened to me twice. The last time this happened I noticed: In the root of the virtual RAM partition (viewable in FileZ if one enables 'Show Hidden Volumes' in the preferences) was a CHKDSK.txt log file. Copying that file to the LifeDrive storage partition, and then looking at it's contents it contained an error (I do not recall the exact message) indicating that the Saved Preferences file started on a free cluster and thus was truncated to 0.

The next time this happens I plan to restore my Saved Preferences file from my last backup.

I use RescoBackup, and I defined a backup called "Prefs" that only backs up the two files SavedPreferences and UnsavedPreferences on a daily schedule. Works fine. When my LD crashes and trashes the Prefs file, I just restore from the latest Prefs backup.

P.S. After the prefs restore, some of the restored pref settingstake effect immediately. Just to be sure, I do a soft reset to make sure everything's fine.

You should use NVBackup. It's free and it works like a dream.
