View Full Version : RescoBackup Issues after ROM Update

As discussed briefly in this (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112779) thread, I was unable to restore a backup set using Resco Backup after Dimitry's ROM update. After the hard reset, none of my backup sets appeared. Other than that the app seemed to run normally.

Can anyone confirm or deny this problem?

Thanks

Haven't used Dmitry's Rom Update. But you should be aware, if you aren't already, that RB has some problems with the TX. I use it as my secondary backup solution because Pruss's free NVBackup is a better app, without the eye candy. No need to use Rlock, or "Lock risky apps". Just a plain and simple backup. On top of that it will sync your palm's time to a NIST time server, FTP your backup set to a server and blank the screen while it's working (my wife gives much thanks for this feature, because I schedule backups for 1:00am).

Thankfully I'm also running NVBackup and was able to restore from it. I think I am going to have to make it my primary backup solution instead of my secondary.

One thing I really like about RBackup, however, is the ability to backup after hotsyncs. If NVBackup had that feature it would be a no-brainer (except I paid the $ for RBackup).

I know how you feel. Over the years I've paid for BackupBuddy, CardBackup, BackupMan, and RescoBackup. Now the one I use is one I don't need to pay for. Go figure ...

Heh... this is a bit ironic, considering the discussion between the Alex and the RescoBackup author... RB author noted that NVBackup might not always be able to restore across ROM updates... and now we find that on this one, NVBackup restores just fine, but RB doesn't.

I have now switched between ROMs at least 5 times now and found the PC restore the best as per Dmitrys comments on the first post. Just make sure you delete the files Dmitrys points out before the restore and all is good.

What is a PC restore? Do you mean restore via Hotsync? Ewww! Yuck! :p

I switched a couple of times as well (just curious to see if it would work) I followed the directions in post #1; used NVBackup for the restore (except I kept the Blazer files and the NF3BookmarkDB) No problems...

Interesting to note however, was that when I switched back to the original ROM using the TX update - ADDIT and QuickTour were still gone  The stupid video was back as well as the background images. :D

Yes via Hotsync, It restored my app with registration details.

As for ADDIT and Quicktour mine came back.

As discussed briefly in this (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112779) thread, I was unable to restore a backup set using Resco Backup after Dimitry's ROM update. Forgive me if this is obvious, but did you click in the upper right where it says "default"? I ask because I don't use "default" but two other profiles (ram and prefs). On hard reset, RB shows "default", which for me has no backup sets. If you drop the list and select your previous profile, the sets are all there and can then be restored.

OK, so I'm an idiot. That is exactly what the problem was, my backup sets were not in "default," but in a category I created. D'oh. :o

I did.
Backupman has a problem with CardReader installed and didn't make backup for some days:new schedule, works ok). BackupBuddy backups were not found only (my last resource) RBackup helped me out.
I now installed NVBackup as well (running 4 backupprgms AND hotsync seems ridiculous). Time will tell which is the best.

I purchased cardreader after I stopped using BackupMan, so I never ran into this. BM did have problems with wifi files.

According to the BackupMan writers CardFeader (and all other prgms that do the same trick (Like Mod Drive) use undocumented Palm OS features that can casue problems. The reaction from the CardReader guys was making a fix for their program. Don't know what I like best. Anyway, their fix didn't work out totally.

I must say I have some problems sometimes with cards read and/or written with CrardRead (and now Dive Mod) versus PC-cardreader. I sometimes have to reset my TX of use Resco Explorer instead of Filez to see what is intended to see on the card.

If I have some clue I will follow up.

What kind of problems? I don't think I've experienced any problems due to either CardReader or CardExport II (I own both for reasons discussed elsewhere). I haven't had any problems backing up with either NVBackup or Resco Backup.
