My wife gave me a Nano for fathers day and I am not sure if I want to use it or continue doing mp3s on my T3. I have been using Pocket Tunes with a 1gb card.

The Nano, of course, does AAC files + mp3, chapter marks, puts blue dots next to podcasts not yet heard, integrates with iTunes, 4gb size, etc. It is ANOTHER gadget to carry, though.

Pocket Tunes was working well. I had a nice skin that allowed (30sec, 1min, 2 min, etc) skips for podcasts. I was manually putting mp3s on it, manually converting AACs from iTunes to mp3s. I never wanted to go beyond the 1gb limit because I kept using my CDs in the car as well.

Sometimes I dream of a Treo to consolodate down the # of devices I use. I still like the large screen of the T3, though.

Have any of you weighed the ipod vs palm decision? What do you think?

It really depends on how much music you want to hold. How much space do you need?

It's another gadget to carry, but I consider my ipod more "disposable," for lack of a better word. If I'm out walking, biking, working in the yard, etc., I'll use the ipod since it won't "hurt" as much if I run over it with a lawnmower or drop it on the sidewalk. (It will still hurt, but at least I can still go to work the next day and not miss much.)

i simply dont want to waste my tx battery life for mp3. i learn that every device has its purpose. nano for mp3 and tx for pda. i dont want to have a situation to have a flat battery when i need my pda because of listening mp3 with the tx.

btw, how long you can last for mp3 with t3. you will have a t3 with flat battery if you use it for listening mp3.

and buy another device such as psp to play games while listening to nano in airport waiting room. too many gadgets i guess.

I bought a Nano for precisely the reason ssulux describes - the T3's ugly battery life.

I love my T3 to bits, but on an inter-continental flight the battery life is just too short to be wasting on MP3s.

The Nano is a good substitute, and because it is so small the burden of having to carry yet another gadget is modest.

I do think the sound quality is noticeably better too. :)

I still use a separate Nano for music. Simply because it is easier to sync, it has good support for podcasts and my car has a dock connector.

The cool thing about the nano is that it is tiny and so although it is another gadget, it is a very small one!

One helpful tip for those that sync iTunes with a palm. In the smart playlist options you can select which file type (or 'kind' as iTunes puts it) for the playlist. This means you don't copy over protected AAC songs to your Palm.
