View Full Version : No WiFi button on Statusbar after Hard Reset - Weird!

OK, so it did a spontaneous hard reset when I was trying out Plucker and now no WiFi radio or the blue background on App Launcher. It's like the ROM was affected during the Hard Reset and wiped out some files. Weird.
Any ideas?

Have you tried another Hard reset or a Soft Reset?

do another hard reset. sometimes that happens to E2 and TX. or try a zero-out reset.
rom cannot be written to easily, so chances of it being affected by a reset are miniscule

Dmitry,
How do you do a Zero Out reset.
Thanks

also the wifi files are in RAM, not rom. they are copied to ram after normal hard reset. so if they still do nto come back. just restore them from a backup or from another tx.

What about the WPA2 Update? Does it rewrite those files in the ROM, doesn't it?

WPA is the "hard" way i mentioned that doe smodify the rom

The Zero Reset isn't working for me (tried it 3 times) and I checked the Palm Support website and nothing about WPA only 1 Security Update.
I also tried a BackupMan reinstall but it didn't replace the WIFI radio.
Any other ideas folks?

Yeah, I did that first.
Anyone have the WIFI files handy...

Can you see it in Prefs and such?
palmjob

No. It's not in Prefs either.
I traded my LD for THIS?

Uh oh.. did it ever work? Maybe you were... scammed... :(
dmitrygr

no. it was a working tx. i used the wifi on it before sending it, and palmjob can likely verify it worked when he got it.
are you sure you did a hard reset right? [confirmed full erase, etc..]
lemme get the files to post here

these need to be copied to ram all at once using filez, with udmh active
then device needs to be turned off for 30 seconds, then resetted with a pin or a stylus.

Oh, you sent it dmitry, lol. Sorry for accusing you ;)
Did you install any apps that could have screwed with the ROM that you aren't telling us about? Or have something weird happen?

this TX i havent had time to really play with. i just used it for quick testing of skinui.
dragonsgames

And I doubt SkinUI did it, but maybe he did something.

he said the reset was caused by some app. an app cannot cause a hard reset on purpose [it is quite hard]. so if it was not on purpose, i really cannot say what was damaged and how

Is fixing the ROM on a TX easier than a VZ? ;)

MUCH easier, however i doubt this is a rom issue.
it is ridiculously hard to modify. hard to do on accident or in a crash.
anyways those files i posted in ram should fix any problems.

Dmitry,
Good morning. I installed those files and WiFi does show up now on the statusbar and in Prefs :>) but TX just resets when I tries to turn WiFI on.
I then installed and enabled UDMH with WiFISetup set up in UDMH but it just reset again when I tried to enable WiFI.
I don't really understand how to use UDMH so I'm probably doing it wrong.
We're almost there...
And Yes, the TX was working perfectly when I received it. This was ENTIRELY my doing.
What I did, I have NO idea.

nothing about WPA only 1 Security Update. It's here: http://www.palm.com/us/software/esu/
As it reflashes the ROM I though it would be helpful, but seeing what Dmitrygr says about ROM... I guess it won't be helpful.

Backupman has a known incompatibility with backing up and restoring the wifi files. You shouldn't be using it. When you are up and running again use Pruss's NVBackup (freely available from http://handypalmstuff.sf.net ).

Thanks, I didn't know this. I'll try Pruss's NVBackup.
Thanks again
PS - I"m up and running again with Dmitry's ROM update

I actually had this exact problem, but was able to fix it quickly enough by installing dmitry's Rom Update (http://www.palmpowerups.com/downloads.php?cat_id=2&rowstart=30). So thank you dmitry, you saved my palm. ^^
