View Full Version : Getting Picsel Viewer to run

OK - thanks to the generosity of a poster here, I've got a copy of Picsel Viewer.
I carefully followed the instructions and installed all the files in the folder on my memory stick (including the ones with %20 in their names - is that right?) .
So far so good. I use PowerRun to shift NetFront on to my stick to clear up some space. I then try loading up Picsel and get a 'memory full - no memory left on Pam internal to load app from memory card' error (and 'debug message: can't launch app: error code 0x0201).
So I go back in a moving frenzy, clearing up 6.31 meg memory. And still the same error.
How much space does this thing need?
or am I missing something?!

You didn't state if your using PowerRun for Picsel too?
PowerRun requires 2.5x the memory to run an app according to it's documentation. I have 6mb free and it runs fine for me, but I am not loading any huge documents either.
Yes the %20 files are correct and should be installed to the MS in the /Palm/Programs/PowerRUN/Picsel folder.
NetFront was the one app that doesn't work for me.

Yes, I'm running Picsel from the memory stick via PowerRun
I've now shoved just about everything I can find on to PowerRun and still Picsel won't run - even with 6.85 meg of free memory.
I'm not trying to open any files either - I'm just clicking on the Picsel Viewer icon...

I don't understand it! I had no trouble what so ever.
The TG version will NOT work on the NZ or NX!
Checklist:
Are you using the lastest version of PowerRun?
Did you copy the 5 Picesl files directly to the MS, manually create the folders, and just use update shortcuts from inside PowerRun?
I hope you didn't use PowerRun to move them to the MS!
Did you do a soft reset?
Did the version you receive come with the instruction file?

Quick update to other users: be sure to back up before fiddling about with Picsel - my Clie has now completely wigged out.
In fact, it's completely screwed up my machine and it looks like I'm going to have no choice but to go for a hard reset :(

n2ifp: I did exactly as you described.
And now my machine is well and truly shafted :(

How easy is it to use PowerRun? I'm considering it because I'd like to use more than the 11MB of internal space, but it sounds like all it does it use the MS for storage and then copy the program to RAM to run. Is this right? If it is, what's the benefit of using PowerRun?

It copies the app and it's associated db's to RAM. When done, it updates the db's and then moves everything back to the MS. It also provides a link for HotSyncing.
Yes it does use the MS as storage, but with large apps like NetFront and Picsel each being approx 2 mb in size, it's a God send so to speak.

Oh dear.. even after a hard reset and reinstall of my backup, some progs aren't running right... I can only advise extreme caution to anyone considering thinking about running picsel...

The original Picsel thread was deleted. Some did in fact have a hard reset for whatever reason and it worked after that. The Clie can hard reset at anytime, as it has done to me on several occaisions without warning. I have no idea if any clashes are pending when installing new softwares.
I am sorry to hear that it happened to you :(

Well, I'm taking it all very personally right now - why me?!!!
Maybe Picsel's got a thing against Welsh people ;)
Anyway, it's late over here in the UK, so I'm going to scuttle off to bed and probably have another bash at sorting it tomorrow.
Good night!
Cheers for your help...

I don't use Powerrun...yet, and I have picsel viewer in ram and it works fine. I used Mcfile to move it from the MS. I did have to do a hard reset recently but I don't think it had anything to do with Picsel. It was prolly one of those unpredictable, unwanted hard resets. Good thing I backed up the day before...that reminds me!

I put in a space for each "%20" and have had no problems. The UI is pretty but not very intuitive IMO.

I'm feeling ambitious, so after much hard reset-ery, I'm going to have a bash at installing in directly on to my Palm. Could someone tell me how much free memory it's going to need to run?

I've ran Picsel from both the memory stick using PowerRun and from internal memory. Both of which worked just fine for me. Installed into internal memory, Picsel viewer shows that it takes up 1898k. Almost 2MB of internal memory. I use Picsel so often that I leave it in internal memory in case I left my memory stick in some other device. Keep us informed and we'll try to figure out how to get yours working !!!!!

Well, I tried installing them directly on to my NX70 (using the install tool) and I get this weird error message:
- Installed file: C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\mike\Install\English%20Language%20Pack.prc
- Installed file: C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\mike\Install\Help%20Pages.prc
- Installed file: C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\mike\Install\Picsel%20Viewer%20Core.prc
- Invalid handheld file deleted: C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\mike\Install\Picsel%20Viewer.prc
- Installed file: C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\mike\Install\User%20Data.prc
Now I'll try installing the files on to the MS, and then moving them to the handheld using CLIE files...
uh huh.. I'm getting another error for Picsel Viewer - I can move all the other files, but if I try and move that file it says the handheld memory is full (there's 5 meg free....)
What am I doing wrong?!!!

try changing all the "%20"'s to a single space.
i.e.
Picsel%20Viewer.prc
becomes
Picsel Viewer.prc

All I did was copy the files via MS Import as per item #3 in the instructions. NO HOT SYNC!!! No install tool either! The %20's are still all there on my unit and did not need to remove them. I can't say whether it's needed or not.

It wont install, Just do a simple MS IMPORT to any where on your MS, and use McFile 2.2 (HAS TO BE), and move them all to RAM
than it would work.
