Do you remember my crusade against the stylus ? Here is a new episode.
PetitLaunch, is a free, useful, light (38Ko), stable launcher, no skin, no background !
With it, you just have to write the name of an application or a DA to launch this application/DA !
PetitLaunch is not french (petit = small) but japanese.
Very nice on UX ! and all PDA with a keyboard : Tréo, TC.
It looks like this :
http://belcikowski.org/La_vie_PDA/images/petitlaunch_autocommand.gifPetitLaunch is just the small rectangle with a cat at the left !
Some explanations in french (If you read this language, this site made by a woman is very nice) : http://belcikowski.org/La_vie_PDA/petitlauncher.html
Don't be afraid, I'm posting some explanations in english !
Author website : http://pam-ya.com/
UX50 and PetitLaunch : Please note that I use KeyQuick.
How does it work ?
Launch PetitLaunch with a press on a hard button.
Begin to write, with your keyboard, the name of an application.
Pres «*enter*»
That's all !
Easy, isn't it ?
To exit «*PetitLaunch*» without doing anythig, the shortcut you have created, with KeyQuick, to quit a DA, works (trial of DA stop). If you don't have KQ, first : you should, second : press BS.
Configuration :
http://belcikowski.org/La_vie_PDA/images/petitlaunch_edit_command.gif
Petitlaunch / setting :
Click on « petitlaunch » in your launcher -> click top right on « setting » -> click on « enable » -> choose the hard button which will launch petitlaunch = Start Trigger.
Hardkey1 = button « web », I've PsMemo on it.
Hardkey2 = button « mail », My choice, not necessarily the best but it's mine :) .
Hardkey3 = button « datebook », I've DateBK5 on it.
Hardkey4 = there's no hardkey4 on UX ! Or, at least, I'm still looking for it.
«*auto command execution*» = will launch the application as soon as you write the first letter. No need to valid.
If you use SnapCalc on this button, choose «*longPress*» to launch SnapCalc.
Petitlaunch / command / new / Application
To be able to launch an application, you have to go to : petitlaunch/command/new ( bottom left ) and choose the applications you want to be in PetitLaunch.
Build 017: The DA are regrouped at the end of the list. I kept Ctrl+T+T to launch my DA with DaLauncher.
New in build 018 : DA and applications have now 2 separated panels.
Little advice : if the name of an application is in 2 words, for instance : Clié Viewer, Clié Camera, It's better to rename this application in supressing the space. For this : go to the bottom of the panel where you are in «*command name*».
Why ? Because, when you press on «*space*», PetitLanch launch the first application in his window.
PetitLaunch/command
There, it's possible to move up or down your applications with the 2 arrows at the bottom.
PetitLaunch/command/click on the name of an application/delete
To supress an application from PetitLaunch.
Useful if you enter twice the same application. Yes, it's possible and it's the only default I've found.
PetitLaunch / command/ new / systeme :
If you want : copy/paste, home, menu etc ... Useful on Tréo.
If you have an UX, you have many buil in shortcuts (Ctrl+K) and I'm sure you use KQ. So .....
No use !
Petitlaunch / shortcut :
Same than above. So .....
No use !
My sum up :
Very well, quick and easy. No need to remember the shortcut I've created to launch an application, I've just to write its name.
=> Adopted in the place of ........ nothing ! I used the standard Palm launcher.
A detail :
Note that, if you stay in PetitLaunch to try his launching possibility just after his setting, the first time you will get the application you have chose in Pref/button. That's normal.
If you exit PetitLaunch and, after, come back to his setting, this time you will get the launching rectangle.
That's a detail I should mention.
in PetiteLaunch, if you go to the Shortcut panel, you can assign sub-commands to the hardbuttons, i.e. they become effective after PetiteLaunch is invoked. E.g. if I assign PetiteLaunch launching box to Hardkey1 and in the Shortcut panel Netfront to Hardkey1, then I press Hardkey1 once to get to PetiteLaunch and Hardkey1 one more time then Netfront is launched immediately. I find it really helpful. Here TamsPalm's description:
"The shortcuts tab let you assign sub-commands to hardkeys. This means that if you press the magic button and then the hard key, the action assigned gets performed. As with regular commands, you can assign both system commands and applications
Good!
My TamsPalm review contained a bit of extra info, too:
