Is anyone here excited about the New Garmin Palm OS5 GPS coming out this summer? It seems like noone talks about it, but looks to me like a dream machine that everyone wants in a pda (virtual silk, no stupid thumbboard, OS5, integrated GPS... woo hoo!!, hopefully nice screen like Clie). Kind of pricey!!!

If the virtual graffiti screen works with many programs (and not just the maps), and it isn't too big, I think I will buy it.

I agree. For me, the IQUE seems to be the perfect machine.

I currently have a T615, and want:
* The same form factor
* Virtual Graffiti
* Voice Recorder
* Palm OS
* Integrated GPS, Driving Directions
* Color screen

I can't wait to get my hands on it and try it out.

The question is, does it support VG the same way Sony does so it can use the same progs in 320x480 modified for the Clie.  If so, it could be a winner.  But would guess that it handles the VG in its own way (like the now defunct HandEra did).

I very much doubt that it handles it the same way, since that would tie it to the Sony feature set, to the point that the PDA would have to lie to software and claim to be a Clie. However, I don't think that that will be much of an issue for long. I'm hoping that they implement the new standardized API for virtual graffiti that PalmSource defined. Since all the players have signed on to that standard, it will be nice having one set of code for everyone.

Where I suspect you'll see compatibility problems is with the jogwheel, since there still isn't a standard jogwheel API. I think I'd have been happier if they had put a 5-way navigator on the iQue, just so that I know that it would be software compatible with SOMETHING.

Then again, I suspect that it will have the standard Streaming Sound API, which means that it will have instant access to the MP3/OGG players written for the Tungsten.

Sad day yesterday, when the HandEra 330 EOL (end of life) was announced. It had such promise when it was first released. The NX60 was the first PDA that was able to tempt me enough to make me give up my 330.

The Garmin and Sony models both use the same basic Hi-Res+ API, but the Garmin will be using the High-Density version. That means all programs that support Hi-Res+ will work on the Garmin.

Palm's High-Density API is different than Sony's HiRes API. Palm has the standard one, and Sony has their modified one (the bad news is that Sony implements different API in their different models, so incompetibilities exsist).
