View Full Version : Screen Failing?

I was at work this morning and turned my TX on. Everything looked alright for a second or two and then the colors all washed out. (Everything got lighter) :(

So I turn it off and turn it back on and all I got were lines up and down the screen. I turned it off and on. Nothing. Soft reset. Nothing. I lightly rapped the screen with my finger and the screen went back to normal. :D

It looks like I have a loose connection. I do not want to spend close to $200.00 dollars to ship it to Palm and get the screen replaced.

BTW, I bought it late last year, so I can't try and get the store I bought it from to swap it.

Circuit City has them for $269.00. I am thinking about just getting a new one.

Any ideas and/or suggestions?

If you are adventurous, you can buy a replacement screen and put it in yourself. I for one, am not that brave.

The T5 screen will work with the TX and can cost around $90.00

or you can open it and just fix the connection :-) it is a ribbon cable with normal plastic connectors on each side :-) cost: $0.00000000

But that would void the warranty!! ;)

Well geeze that's way too easy and makes sense! Why would anyone do that!

If it is a loose cable you will not be charged by Palm for a screen replacement.

Firstly, thank you all for your suggestions.

I finally got the cover open and had a look. I could not see anything loose with the connections. They all seemed good. I could not see the actually connection to the screen. I did not tinker too much because I know just enough to be dangerous. ;)

Anyhow, because I rely on it so much, I went and bought a new one. Thank God I have Resco Backup. It made moving a lot simpler. (Although Uncache is not working. It is showing a different user id.)

So, anyone want to buy a TX with a crummy screen? :D

Seriously, I am sure there is someone out there with more technical skills who could probably fix it and make use of it. I could not wait because I use the darn thing so much.

Send me a Private Message if you have interested. I am not sure how much to ask. Make me an offer!! :)
