Before the fall of the forum, someone suggested an "Avant-go" type service, but instead of syncing and downloading the headlines of the news, it would actually pull video highlites off the web and store them on the Clie. Then you could watch the news highlites on the go. This sounds like a great idea. I know I could do this all myself with Kinoma Producer and such, but that's just too much effort:) But if I could perform a Hotsync, and automatically have today's video highlites, that would be incredible. What are the odds of this type of service becoming reality?

Sounds great,
But just imagine how long it would take to Hotsync a 5 min video clip to your Palm, not to mention the fact that you would have to keep your RAM 100% free to barely fit a low-res program.
One way or the other, such a service would have to offer clips for download and installation via MSimport.
I admit that the process of converting news programs that I outlined in the last thread was a little complicated, but I'm afraid that without a video player capable of playing RealMedia or Windows Media format natively, personal conversion will remaina must.
(Unless CLieflix or some other site wants to start a Daily news service in Kinoma format - I'd be happy to repost my streaming video to Kinoma instructions if that were the case).

Hi,
Actually, there is one service that is similar to what you are suggesting. Its called ActiveSky....I just don't know how widely supported it is. Here is a link to the AtomFilms "Activesky" download page:

I am sure more info is available if you follow the link to the ActivesSky homepage.

Thanks Yuriv; some websites are in fact taking steps in the right direction by offering video clips in "PDA" formats, but not to the extent that I'm talking about.
Hopefully, with MPEG-4 on the horizon, and the surge of personal video devices coming out in 2003, there actually will be an Avant-go-like service that is more media-rich than just text...hopefully soon...
