Does anyone notice the VG area of the NZ is less sensitive than other sony VG models? I seem to be pressing harder when writing than I remember with my NX. Maybe it's because I have one of the first out models? I just notice that when I am writing, sometimes the VG area (normally shows what you write) will 'skip' like I took the stylus off the VG area, when in fact I didn't. But when I press harder, it seems to work normally.

Any ideas on what to do? Do I have a defective unit?

Thanks.

Yep. Have to agree ... I even dragged out my original PALM PILOT and tried the screen on that ... it was mcuh more sensitive than the NZ! Still, after nearly a month I am more than used to the NZ now ... weird traits and all!

the only thing i find odd is the "gap" between the screen and "body", sensitivity or the lack of it is not an issue.

Thanks. Do you mean the Graffiti area? I am not sure what you mean by VG area. If you mean the graffiti area, I have had no problem at all. I am not having any problems with sensitivity at all on my NZ.

Yes, he means the Graffiti area. It's refered to as Virtual Graffiti, because on the older Palm type units, it was a fixed area used for nothing else, where as it's virtual on the NR, NX, & NZ90. Some even call it a collapsible area.

I think it's also refered as Slik Screen area...

Well, anyways, I never had a palm or an organizer before, NZ90 is my 1st one. And I have to say, it's great. The pressure I put is about the same as my Viewsonic Tablet PC, if not better...

I haven't encountered any lags or any related sort of screen input problems yet.

i have encountered the problem regarding the sensitivity of the graffiti area today, after 8 months use of intensive graffiti inputing. i dont have any screen protectors on and despite this i noticed a marked decrease in sensitivity in the graffiti area. did i break any pressure sensitive membranes inside the screen during the course of my use? i have tried the digitizer solution but it seems that the screen itself is the problem. after twisting the screen from tablet mode to open mode i still noted the loss of sensitiviy in the area which is now in the upper right hand corner after flipping the screen where the virtual graffiti resides in tablet mode. as stated earlier did i break any membranes or sensors inside during imputing? is this a common problem? is this loss of sensitivity sufficient reason for a return to sony? its not really that much a loss of sensitivity but i did notice you have to significantly press harder now compared to previous to have the graffiti recognized. and as earlier mentioned by other posters, would skip and render a wrong letter once pressure is let go. thanks

I too have an NZ and have owned several other palms OS models in the past.
My NZ is the least sensitive of all devices I've used. In addition to the VG area, I also notice that the upper right corner area isn't very sensitive... I have to press several times to select a link, icon or button when it falls in this area."Ajiclie" mentioned that there is a solution of some sort that he/she tried to remedy the sensitivity issue... what is that solution?

eric2002, some members recommended that on open mode, initiate the digitizer and after this the problem was cured. im not sure this works and other members have found that out as well. i think that in the open mode the virtual graffiti area during tablet mode has now moved to the upper right hand corner and since the graffiti area during open mode was not really the issue they thought that the sensitiviy issue was cured. however upon going back to the tablet mode the same problem resurfaced. im thinking there must be some pressure sensitive membrane in between glass and the actual screen was damaged at least on my part because it was previously working well for me.

Maybe, but it's not, more correct to call it the VG area. Silkscreen is the ones that have an actual silkscreen. The NX73 and NX80 are about the same as the NZ90 in sensitivity. The screen also has a different feel, more spongy, than the NR70 or NX70.

I may just be heavy handed...but I actually find the VG section of this palm MUCH smoother and easier to use. I think the visualization of my start point and stroke make it easier too for me to see what I did right (or wrong).

The only problem I have (and I guess I'll ALWAYS have) is when I try to do pucntuation or special characters) or when I start to think that I'm fly and I start to go FAST... then the Clie looks at me like... you buggin, bucko.

from all the previous threads, the nz seems to need a bit more pressure than the nr and nx models...

my advice is to use a screen protector, i use the fellowes ones, they are very clear... every month or so, put a little dab of armorall on it, keeps it flexible and slick...

i'm very happy with this arrangement... and i've had about 6 pda's
