I'm literally batting 50% or so when I convert QTs into .MQV files through Sony's Image Converter that came with my NX install CD. That's pretty pathetic IMO.

Half the the time, the movies converted are corrupted and locks up my NX. And it doesn't matter which PC I use (one through MS mport, and another through a built in MS reader).

My comps are in top working shape and has plenty of power and RAM, so I'm gonna blame this pathetic average o the program itself.

Anybody else having similar experience?

It depends on the codecs used, but sometimes I've run into some problems. What I usually do is just export the file with Quicktime Pro 6 and use uncompressed sound and Sorensen 3 for the video. The Image Converter handles the files fine then. If I'm not using a Quicktime file, and am having trouble with an .AVI or .MPG, I use Virtual Dub (which is free BTW), and then I convert the video to uncompressed sound (seems if the sound is compressed, it always has trouble) and Divx 5 format. The Image Converter handles those files fine too.

My impression is that the issue lies not with Image Converter (not completely, anyway), but with the sound compression used in the QuickTime movies you're trying to convert. I think there are a couple of threads about the new Matrix trailer in the Videos section where this problem crops up.

For the most part, I've been able to convert QT movies just fine, though specifically for this trailer, I ran into the problem you described when doing a straight QT > .MQV conversion. AshVID pointed out that he was able to get a Clie-playable version after running it through Premiere, but I -- not wanting to spend that kind of money -- spent $30 to upgrade to QuickTime pro, after which I did a QT > .AVI > .MQV conversion, which worked great.

Mmm, not fast enough on the typing.

I have no complaints, but maybe someone might want to raise a stink about why Image Converter can't handle compressed audio?

The problem is that when audio gets recompressed it begins to sound HORRIBLE!

I suppose they might counter with "That's why it's called image converter and not sound converter". LOL

Thanks for the info guys.
