Guys,

I noted before, that I got my refurbished lifedrive for $250 at staples. They replaced the battery and screen, and did a full system detail. Well I found out today(the day after getting my ld), that they installed a 5000mah battery instead of the standard 1600. I can operate on wifi for 15hours SRAIGHT. I tested it out. I sat and operate the wifi, bt, blazer, ptunes, full contrast, and filled up my 3.85GB(I was trying to spin the disc). I was able to pull this off for 9 hours!!!! Whooohooo!!!!!!! This has been the greatest purchase I've ever made.l

Wow!

If its true, I wonder how they stuffed it in, since larger capacity batteries are usually larger in size

Yeah, I'd like to see this 5Ah battery that can find in a PDA

Theoretically possible, but highly unlikely. There are Axim batteries that go that high I believe, but still, thats a stretch...

guys,
if you'll show me how you pop the thing open without harming it, I'll take a nice hirez picture for you. the reason I found out, was I tried registering it on the palm website, and it sent me an email telling me about the 100 or so like-equiped pdas that were produced as prototypes and distributed.

Anyway, tell me how I open her up, and I'll SHOW you.

Ok, dude. Can't wait! :D (battery life was always a problem for LD, I have heard)

OMFG!!! You'd be my hero as well. Please let this battery be slim enough to fit in an EB40 or TX. **Crosses fingers** I hope this isn't a hoax.

not sure about it fitting in the LD, but I can change this (http://cgi.ebay.com/RC-HELICOPTER-AIRPLANE-11-1V-LI-POLY-1800mah-BATTERY_W0QQitemZ6062079490QQihZ009QQcategoryZ2563QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
battery (11.1v 1800 mAh) to: 3.7v 5400 mAh.
it wouldn't be very hard. and it is plenty small.

dragonsgames
06-01-2006, 11:02 PM
Really? That is interesting. How would you go about doing that?

ntw1103
06-01-2006, 11:19 PM
just change the arrangement, from serial to parallel.

How similar is the battery in the LifeDrive to a TX's battery ?

lol agreed and I think a new battery mod is in order if this is true and the dimensions work out.

It will mean the VZ90 doesn't have the best battery life... :(

Cyker
06-03-2006, 05:44 AM
Well if we're talking stock battery life the TH and VZ still are the best, BUT!

If this is true, then we could probably find similar things for TH55's and VZ90's. That kind of capacity combined with the low power-drain of the HHE Clie's would mean you wouldn't have to charge for *months*!!!

However, I am still quite skeptical - AFAIK there is no way you can make a 5Ah LiPoly battery that small - The smallest battery that I have anywhere near that capacity that has roughly the same foot-print is 3 times the thickness of my T665's PDA battery!
And I don't want to junglemike my TH55 thankyou ;)

The largest Axim Battery that's "available" (ie I've seen reviews, but haven't seen any for sale anywhere) is a Mugen 3300 mah. It requires a new battery door that doubles the width of the Axim, and can't be charged in a standard Axim dock/charger. 5Ah is highly unlikely.

5000 mAh can be done. In order to charge the battery using the method I mentioned in my previous post, you need a special charger. Or you need some special wiring. I talked to an Electronic engineer about it, and he said it can be done the way I said in my other post.

ok, less talk and some proof, so that non-hands-on pansies like me can start drooling over it!

here is your proof that it can be done: info on Lithium Polymer (http://www.rchobbies.org/lithium_battery_breakthrough.htm) , if you know what you are doing.
I can't prove that he does have a pda with a battery like that, just that the battery can be made.

I agree with SoS, this is a silly thread.

Sure it can be done: http://www.caplamp.org/battery/5Ah_li-ion_battery.jpg

Yeah right, you talked to an Electrical Engineer and he told you that yes, there are 3.7v 5Ah batteries. No, there are no batteries of that capacity that come anywhere near being able to fit in an LD case. Oh, unless he was talking about magic batteries. That might work.

BTW, you don't need a special charger or wires for this battery, you need a lot of time is all.

Here's a link to a Li-Poly 3.7v 5.5Ah battery. Still too big for a PDA. http://www.all-battery.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=475

li-poly does require a more intelligent charger.

why limit youself for a 5.5Ah when they have one with 6.3Ah :D

I found a 5000mah li-ion polymer battery on a chinese website that was
170x53x6mm...this is huge!! To fit in the LD it would have to be ~10mm thick!!!

okeydokey guys, my dad has left, i'll be heading into the cell phone store this afternoon to get the case popped open and take a look. I'll take my kodak z700 with me and have some pictures made. Will write as soon as I get them uploaded.

BTW: I said the battery, according to the email I received from palm, is 5000mah, not 5500. I'll post the email I got from palm in the form of a screenshot soon.

Anyway, I've got dishes to do,
