One thing I tend to do for PDAs I plan on keeping for a while (six months up to two years) is get a decent case to protect the outside of the device. What I'd really like is an affordable (under $60) hard aluminum or metal case that has a flip-top design and I could use my NX70V in either clamshell or tablet modes and have access to the side controls. If there is no such hard case that fits those requirements, what about reinforced leather cases? Any help and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am pretty sure there are hard cases available. There certainly has been several lengthy threads on cases in the not too distant past.

I tried searching, but with all of the results nothing I found mentioned a hard case like I described. I'd like a hard case because of the extra protection. I've even considered making cases using some Denim I have and peices of metal to reinforce the case. I doubt anyone would be interested in a case like that.

Does anyone know of a hard flip cover? I'm not asking necessarily about leather cases, because I found a ton of results for them when I searched. I really want a hard metal case. Again, thanks.

I was interested in this case but had two problems with it.
1) It's large! Leather cases are smaller and fit better in my pocket.
2) For winter weather especially way up north it's much better to use a leather case over a metal case. I wouldn't want to hold that metal case after being outside :D. That and the cold temperature would be bad for the PDA.

Not quite what I meant, spoon. I want one that the hinge is located on the top, not the side. Thanks for pointing the case out though.

u should get the one on the side...by innovative tech...something...thats what i have..its great....a flip on the top is....not good at all...
theres the cf and memory stick and camera..
thats not logical

i've been looking for the same type of case also.
The innopocket is good protection, but the location of the hinge makes it difficult to hold the clie.
There isn't currently anyone who makes a metal case with a flip top hinge.
But you could try Vaja I-volution. Its a hard plastic shell wrapped in leather with a flip-top design hinge point.
Just as good protection as an innopocket. But also about 4 times the price.

My searches also turned up only the innopocket and a similar one from another company - both side hinges which get in the way of the keyboard.
Maybe someone, some day will meet this aching need!
I didn't realize vaja cases have a hard plastic shell - that would do if I could afford it.

Not all of them..... just the I-Volution. The plastic shell is how they get the leather to shape around the clie so well.

I've looked at the I-Volution, but it is just outside of my price range. I do like the fact I can get a matching pouch for my cellphone or to hold the accesories in.
Right now I'm just using a generic pleather camera case that clips to my belt that is big enough in the main pocket to hold the KB11 Keyboard AND my NX70V (tight squeeze for both)! It also has a smaller pouch on it that holds the inline remote, headphones, my three memory sticks and my Fisher Space Pen/Stylus. I'd like to get something that gives my Clie a lot of extra protection, with a smaller size, and with all of my searching none of the leather cases seem to fit the bill. The i-Volution case is close, but costs too much.

Does anyone know if there are metal cases available for the NX70v that completely enclose the PDA? All models I have ever seen leave openings for the camera and jog dial. They are a great design, but not what I need.
?

All I could find were two metal cases - Innopocket and another one that is pretty much the same I think. (They were developed by two companies working together - so I am assuming they are pretty much teh same thing).

You could have hinged "door", and for an NX-60 it would be fine.(no need for a camera opening)

Here's a post that I did in the "official nx cases" thread that might help- it's not metal but looks pretty indestructible:
"Discovered a "new" case from otter box. Does anyone have any experience with this case?
http://www.armorbyotter.com/heavyarmor.cfm
From the looks of things, one could safely carry their PDA into battle in the middle of a raging hail and rainstorm and still be confident their little partner was well protected.
For most of us, this would be overkill, but hey.... look what kind of PDA we own!"
Regards....
yes i have used the ottor armor before....
it will protect your expensive unit very well from water, a tank and so on. BUT.. you wont be able to fit it in your pocket.. unless u have a huge one.

Go to Ebay, there are inexpensive metal cases there. :)
http://www.armorbyotter.com/reviews.cfm
check this page out, yes u can use the unit within the box.
but the screen protection part is just a film .. so it wont really protect the screen against a direct hit to it.
nx70v does fit in.. and lots of other pda will fit in.
hope this holp

Can you push the NX power button through the film?
Rick 098,
yes u can turn your nx70 on while u have the unit in this box. and maybe u can even use the camera.. (not sure since i never tired.. actually i just got my nx70 being upgraded from handera330 cuz of the CF driver and the cheap wl100, thanks to this web site!!)
if you want i could post a pic of it, the exact size how would it look like in the box and so on...
but, u need to teel me how would i post a pic.
hope this help

Hmm... the otterbox sounds cool, but I think it would add too much bulk!
