I have managed to snap my speaker wire right at the point at which it would enter the plug for connection to the motherboard. Is it possible to "open" the plug or will I have to wire the speaker directly into the motherboard port now?

I know some of you have done similar things, so I'd really appreciate your input!

Thanks in advance.

Dun throw away the plug! You can repair the connection with a pair of fine pliers.

1. The gold metal contacts on the transparent plug can be removed using the fine pliers by pulling it out.

2. Once removed, the speaker wires can be reinserted into the place it once was. (there is a hole for the wire to be inserted if you observe properly)

3. Reinsert the gold contact into position, the contact will crimp the wire in place and also make electrical contact.

4. Ensure that the gold contacts are inserted adequately into the transparent connector.

5. Do the same for the other wire

6. You should be able to reconnect the plug into the motherboard.

7. The repaired connections should look exactly the same as before.

Do post further message if you need further queries. I can help
Cheers

Fantastic - thanks for the help!

I will give it a go this weekend and post back if I have any further issues.

Thanks!

Wow Sony Freak - it worked like a charm! I wish I'd photographed the process for future cak-handed idiots like me, but knowing that I'm not usually very good with such delicate operations I didn't dare. If I'd realised it was going to be as easy as your instructions suggest, I would have done so.

Speaker is now producing sound once again, and I'm a happy Monkey/Wolf. Thanks ;)
