I would appreciate any help about save wabpage as a html file and into a specified direction in a SD card.

I only tried blazer, which did not save page as html file neither let me specify location. The saved file will be "Blazer saved page_xxxx" in my TX

I have put some html files in my SD card and they can be opened with blazer via a click in RescoExplorer perfectly. However, I can not open that "Balzer saved page" file with a click in RescoExplorer.

What I would like to do is to save a html file in my SD card for off-line browsing.

Thanks for your advice!

Have you considered using plucker?

I second the recommendation for Plucker or a Plucker/Sunrise combo. That's how I save and view all webpages for offline viewing. Sunrise even has a Mozilla plugin so any webpage I'm viewing with FireFox is easily transfered into a Plucker page.

I think Netfront saves as a mhtml (if i'm correct with the extension) which is like all the files for the page such as pictures into one file. I think all browsers support it.

If you want to save a page you have to click on add page memo (werid name) to save it

Thanks for you recommendation on Plucker. However, if I remember it right, Plucker works similar to Isilo (the one I have). You need to convert the target (either an on-line page or a html/doc file) into a compact form and then transfer the converted one to you Palm for viewing.

What I was looking for is a way to save a complete webpage in html (its original form; usually a .html file and a directory) ON my TX (not on a desktop) directly into SD card. There is no desktop or laptop involved in the process.

Actually, I am happy with the way blazer open html file (for now). The only thing missing now is to save an on-line page I was viewing on TX into its original html form. Saving wegpage into a computer as a html is what we are doing everyday on a computer, isn't it? Why not on a Palm?

Also, thanks for the hint on Netfront. However, I don't know how to get it and run it on TX. On the other hand, will xiino do what I want to do?

Thanks!!

Well in that case... Junkyard speaks the truth. I just tested in on my TX and it worked. I used NetFront v3.1 available here: http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110728 See the 2nd post for Dmitry's install version. Makes the install completely painless.

Then as Junkyard mentioned just load the page, then go to EDIT->SAVE PAGE MEMO. A screen will pop-up asking you what you want to call name it. Then click OK. The webpage is saved in .mhtml format and can be opened with any browser for later viewing. :)

Thanks for the hint on Netfront. It does display web pages differently then Blazer (with some choices). It is quite interesting to try.

I did saved a page as "page memo" in a SD card, which is great. However, if I tried to open the file directly via RescoExplorer, there will be an error and it won't open. Too bad. :( It's kind of half way of what I would like to do.

Thanks for the help and I'll keep you updated if I found anything works.

IMHO... it sounds like this is more of a Resco Explorer issue than it is a format issue... the format generated from NetFront is good - .mhtml files will open in Firefox for me just fine. I don't use RE, I use UniCMD instead and it has an option to associate file types with certain apps ie: I can set .mht file types to automatically open in NetFront when I select the file in uniCMD. You might see if you also have a similar option.

Also, have you checked over in the RE forums? Maybe post your question there... Jan (Resco developer) usually quite helpful and quick to respond.

You might be right on RE. In both un-sccessfuly incidence (open "Blazer saved page_xxxx" and mhtml file), RE correctly called for right applications. For example, Netfront ran but with an error message "Cannot open file" when I click the mhtml file. It seems that RE did not pass the file location to NF properly or some sort. Just my guess. I'll try to dig more from RE's forum.

BTW, will uniCMD open the mhtml file with your specified app. alright?

Thanks!!

OK, now it is totally chaos.

1) RE can fire up blazer with html files (uploaded to SD card with Wifile Pro) if I choose blaser as the default app.

2) RE tried to fire up Netfront with the same html file, but Netfront will choke on it.

3) you cannot assign mht or mhtml file to blazer in File Association of RE, it will reject it.

3) uniCMD will let you choose app. to open any file. But...

4) uniCMD cannot fire up either html or mht file with either blazer or Netfront with any setup parameters I tried(send to applicaiton, switch to application, sublaunch ...).

Is there any Palm application just simply download a html file to a SD card (I don't even care if I can see the page.)

Thanks!!

I just tried it by inputing "file:\\K512\1.mht" when it is in my SD card root director, but still get "Cannot open file".

It seems NF has problem to open file this way.

Duke - I'm very sorry about the uniCMD thing - I thought that it had worked when I tried it, but it turns out that NF was just loading the last page I visited (which was the file I had saved) :o

Anyways... I've got it worked out now and I've tested it using 4 .html files saved from firefox, then transfered over using card export and I've opened them in NetFront for offline viewing.

To do this:
1)Save the .html file to you card (of course :p )
2)Open NetFront and tap on the little icon that looks like a folder
3)Tap the pull down menu and select Enter Address
4) Use this format to input the file name:
file:///name_of_your_card/name_of_file.html

This has worked with 3 of the 4 files tested, one did not but that is possibly a limitation of a pda web browser - I think it didn't like something on the page. But that's not surprising since I sometimes get errors downloading certain pages anyways.

Also, if you just want to view the actual html code uniCMD will open this up by double tapping in the file name.

Hope this helps :)

PinCushionQueen:

Thanks a lot! It did work for html file. I almost say: "You are my hero". :)
(I am surprised that the extra "\" is required for NF to open a html file.

However, it still not work for .mht file, which is the type saved by NF. Sorry, I am not trying to be picky. The problem is still there:

I can only save mht file with NF to SD card, and then NF can not open it either with RE or specifying address. (NF can open its saved "Page Memo", which is actually a mht file. Go figure!)

So I said "almost". ;)

But much appreciated for your reply and help!!

That's the best I can do.. Open transfered files with the path I gave and open all files saved within NF with the "Open Page Memo". So I guess I'll just have to contine being a regular girl for now... ;)

If I come across away to become your "Hero" I'll make sure to let you know.

You did helped a lot. I really appreciate the time and attention you put in here. Though the problem is not totally resolved, but we have had learned quite a few stuffs here. I also had reply from Jan Slodicka at RE forum. As you said, Jan is quite willing to help. I am going to follow up on that. However, I suspect NF may have something to do with this issue.

When it is resolved, it would be great to save a complete webpage in the archive format (.mht) in one file. Also, NF did preserved almost everything in that file so they can be viewed later on a computer if it is desired.

One last thing. IE can open the NF saved mht file perfectly fine. But Firefox (even with MAF extension) did not open it correctly. I had MAF 0.6.3 installed.

The deal is that FireFox doesn't natively support MIME at this time (that's the "m" in .mhtml). I just tried to check the FF extensions page there really doesn't seem to be a good extension to open these files. Maybe post a request or just keep checking back at the Mozilla site for extensions.

Hello,

The only way I found to open an HTML file in NetFront by associating it in UniCMD is to use the Send to application option (under Launch Method). This way, the HTML file is sent to NetFront as if it was being beamed to NetFront.

The problem is that NetFront will open only that HTML file, and all links, images, etc. will not work anymore, which is really lousy.

Maybe it can be associated with NetFron in another way, using as Launch Method one of the other options (Switch or Sublaunch?), but in this case we would have to find out the correct parameters.

Opening a file from NetFront is very lousy, as one can not browse to the desired file - the user must enter the full path manually. Very awkward, specially for long names and sub-folders.

Does anyone know of any other way to associate the files with NetFront (or any other browser)?

Thanks,

Mickets

Now you can also use TreoOfflineViewer, which as a plugin for the Blazer web browser, makes it much more convenient to save HTML files to memory cards.

TreoOfflineViewer - save and load web pages from the SD card with your favorite web browser.

Download TreoOfflineViewer from:

Hmmm... not free. And it doesn't say it works on the TX.

meanwhile, I can use Resco Explorer to open the HTML files in Picsel Proviewer (yes - it doesn't officially support HTML files, but it does), Picsel Browser, Blazer, Universe.

Nothing 100% ideal, but free.

Anyway, TreoOfflineViewer works with any device with Palm OS 5 and the Blazer web browser, so with Palm TX, too.

Save a web page in Blazer (Blazer Saved Pages_C..."), copy it to your SD card and rename the file extension to .mht. You can then email or send it to a PC for someone to view.

Yes, they allow for the partial functionality of TreoOfflineViewer, but you have to own the device from which you take these files to use them legally.
