Wouldn't it be nice to have a list of reputable vendors with good prices for NZ90 and accessories? sonystyle prices are just outrageous. Here are a few items and best prices I was able to find, from reputable vendors who have reasonably large stocks. Sure, you can take your chances on ebay, and perhaps beat those by a bit, but I'm looking for real reliability. Please post your best prices if they beat the ones below, or if you come upon a good sale we could all benefit from! Let's encourage these vendors with the best prices!

not much of a deal on the cradle... anyone find it cheaper?

By the way, the cradle, while nice, is unnecessary (and expensive). If all you're looking for is a duplicate way to hotsync and/or recharge your NZ90 (say at home and work), the power adapter and USB hotsync cables will both plug into the little adapter unit that comes with either the hotsync cable or the power adapter (which together add up to less than the cost of the cradle, which *still* requires the power adapter and hotsync cable anyway). Unfortunately, the resulting beast is unwieldy, e.g. the NZ90 cannot be set down on its back with the little opened door in the way.

Be careful of the shipping and warranty details on some of the super cheap Clies...the best discount bet is to sign up as a Clie developer with Sony...you get 15% off any machine you buy (so, a $799 NX goes for approx. $680.)

If someone is going to buy a nx for $799 at tis time .. he/she must be NUTS.

According to my Compatibility Chart which came with the NZ, PEGA-AC10 and PEGA-DC10 both say "To be connected to USB Cradle (can not be used with plug adapter)

Have you actually used the plug adapter with the NZ? I would like to be able to sync at work.

i have them both... they work, but the connector is sometimes hard to insert and remove, especially the third party stuff...

the cradle is much more convenient...

also, having the usb for hotsync and the power at the same time is much nicer than one or the other...

While the cradle *is* more convenient because of the quick hotsync button (and the nice geometry of the PDA sitting up and easily accessible), each of the AC10 and HS10 comes with a connector with BOTH power and USB hotsync sockets, i.e., you CAN have both power and hotsync capability at the same time without the cradle (it's not a case of "one or the other"... I have them and they work just fine together). The drawbacks are, as Greg points out, that the connector needs a little bit of wiggling back and forth when connecting, and that the hotsync command needs to be issued as a PDA application rather than simply pushing a button... At the very least, it's a nice solution for traveling without having to bring the cradle.

If anyone is interested in a NZ90 for $585.00 let me know. It has a little wear on the top edges (paint faided out but can be touched up). To make up for the paint fades I will throw in one extra external battery for free.

Email me at SILVERSLIDER@PRODIGY.NET

Thanks.

P.S you MUST have a WWW.PAYPAL.COM account for this purchase.

Are NZ accessories cheaper in japan ??? like the MS PRO and the battery??

greg elmassian

I surely do not think so... Japan is usually more expensive, although it varies a bit with the change in the $. I've been there about 20 times, and shopped in all the major electronics worlds, the bes known is Akihabara (and the worst prices).... I usually only buy stuff not available here, like the very top end "ear bud" headphones (model 888's) etc...

Akihabara has the best prices if you know where to go and if you have good timing. But if you just go to the big chain stores, there's really no difference between Akihabara and stores anywhere else in Japan. But it's been my experience that MSPro is actually more expensive here. I ordered a Lexar 512MB from the US for $250. The cheapest I could find a 512 stick for here was around $350 (albeit for the Sony).

Oh, my TG50 only cost me $335, though, so some things certainly are cheaper.

Right now (and I don't know for how long) amazon.com has a great sale on the BP500 battery or UC90 cradle for $55.54 each! With the Super Saver Shipping option, either item will ship for free! I haven't seen better prices (except possibly Ebay) anywhere.

BC-10 Battery pack works fine with my NZ90, so if you don't wanna try BP500 without a stand-alone charger, that's another choice.

Does the BP500 come with a stand alone charger?

No.
And that's why I don't wanna buy an extra BP500. How can I charge it when I use my NZ90 without a real stand-alone charger?

EvilErnie

Sony should come out with one soon.. it would boost the bp500's sales.

I thought about ordering my NZ from one of the discount Internet sites, but then I decided I'd rather pay a few extra dollars and get it from my local Best Buy. That way I can take advantage of their replacement plan for the next two years. I'm also rather impatient, so once I decided on the NZ, I had to have it immediately! No waiting for shipping for me!

reply to icruise about akihabara:

actually, akihabara is more expensive than nagoya and osaka areas.... I have been in every shop in the akihabara "electric city" "square" ..... (took several days!, but I used to be there 3 weeks at a time, so used up saturdays and sundays)

If you are in the nagoya area, I'll point you to better deals, in fact found a used goods store with unbelievable deals, like a $1600 Denon DAT recorder/player for $200.....

Osukanon, Kamimaizu areas ...

Greg

I took the AC10 connector and ground a little off of one side of it on a belt sander. The plastic body is plenty thick and it allows the connector to snap in flat against the body of the NZ90 now. The problem was that they didn't allow enough clearance on the NZ90 for these connectors.

I had seen several postings about this in another thread, but I for one never really saw the need for this grounding off of part of the connector. Sure, it's a bit of a tight fit, and perhaps introduces a little bit of stress on the NZ90, but I didn't think it was enough to cause damage. I have used it several times now, without any obvious bad consequences... Certainly the grounding off of part of the connector cannot hurt anything and would be a cautious thing to do.
