Guys,
I might have to send my old TX to Palm. I understand that they will not sned me a new unit, but rather a refurb, right? I kinda hate that possibility, but I guess I might have to live with it.
The question that I have is, will Palm change the casing on the refurb unit, as to not send me a unit that is all scratched? I would really hate to receive a scratched unit, since I always care so much about my PDAs. If the casing is new, I guess it might be more acceptable.
Wish my TX hadn't died on me. Nothing can be done, BTW. I tried everything, and it's just dead.
Thanks in advance for the input guys!

Yes, my TX lost its WI-FI and had to be sent back to Palm. I also hesitated on the thought of getting a refurbished unit. But, like you, I had no other choice. Their response was impressive. Within a day of receiving it, they immediately sent me a refurbished unit. But I could not tell that it was not new. And it has been much more stable than my original unit and I have been very happy. I was pleasantly surprised by the exerience since I had heard so many bad stories about Palm's customer service. I had the same thing happen with my Palm Universal Wireless Keyboard.

I too have got a refurb from Palm. When companies sell "refurbished" units, they're usually referring to the internals. So what you get is a new case, stylus, battery, and screen front, with a used motherboard, backlight, and LCD screen inside. The refurbs appear to be assembled by hand instead of at the factory, as the screws have that "slightly worn" look of screws that have been put in by hand instead of by machine.
My experience with refurbs is they are often superior because they have more checks before shipping than factory direct units. This is my experience with Apple, Conon and now Palm.
My refurb'ed TX is way more solid than my first factory unit.

These comments put a smile on my face because I am about to send my friends TX out to get replaced because of a constant reset problem. I suggested to this friend to buy the TX, so my reprutation is now on the line.

Thanks for the reply guys.
Something else I am wondering about... Some people said that the serial number of the refurb units said "MAX" somewhere... Now, could anyone who has a refurb unite tell me just where this "MAX" is written? I know that under the serial number, it says "MAC", with a number next to it. Is that "MAX" actually part of the serial number, or just to replace the "MAC" on standard units. And if the "MAX" is part of the serial number, is it placed at the end of it, or the beginning?
Just wondering, in case I ever decide to sell the unit.
no, that is the MAC address of the Wifi card, all ethernet adaptors (wireless included) have a unique ID.

I got a refurb unit because of my Graffiti Input Area - the new screen works great - it isn't as bright as the other, but passable, The real problem, however, is that the Wifi on the replacement is terrible - very weak signal - I can no longer get reception in parts of my house that my original unit would always work in. Over the past five years I have had 5 replacement units from palm. 1 was okay, 2 were very good, 1 had a big scratch on the screen, and now the problem I had is corrected but the Wifi is now a new problem. I personally have had it with Palm - to top it off I had to pay $40 for a new problem. I have a 7 week old unit the replacement for $40 should have been new. Anyway, that's my experience.
