Ordered a T|X from Palm store last Friday. Currently enroute via UPS. Nothing like anticipating a new toy.
I have been using Palm OS devices for several years. First was an M100 which I really liked for the long battery life, nice loud alarms, etc.
Replaced it with a IIIxe to get more storage mainly for making notes. If I write something down on paper, I can never find it again! All I have to remember is the category or a keyword and use find. Liberal use of Avantgo to get my computer news fix if I am away from the net.
I have put off getting a color display PDA due to the rechargeable non-replaceable batteries.
Downloaded and browsed the PDF documentation for the T|X to familiarze myself it before actually having it in hand. I know I won't RTFM once I get it. :p
Ran across this site from an entry on Tam Hanna's Palm OS blog found by googling for info on the T|X. Strange that I have not run across this site sooner.
Hope to be a contributer and not just a lurker!

You will find a need for "Hold On" if you listen to music much, otherwise enjoy

Yes that is an ostrich. Something a bit different.
I don't plan on installing ANY of my current applications. I don't believe in one device for everything. I have an MP3 player (e-digital), Camera, cell phone, digital video, DVD player, laptops, desktops, and lots of other toys I carry about. Biggest annoyance is all the power supplies I have to carry around. At least with the IIIxe, I just carry 4 extra AAA batteries and NO charger.
I'll probably put some MP3's on an SD card, but use my MP3 player for actually listening to music. I picked up a SanDisk Ultra II SD card at Costco today. If it does not work in the T|X it will work in my camera.
Now I will have to carry around a wireless router to plug in to friends networks that are not wireless yet.

WOW, that's a lot of stuff ;)

That is not the half of it. :)
I don't carry it all with me unless I am traveling. If I am bike riding, I'll take a camera, MP3 player, and cell phone, sometimes a GPS depending on where I am going. If I am hiking, I may pear back a bit more or carry more stuff in a day pack. Nice to have different devices to pick and choose from rather than just one with a dead battery.

...If I write something down on paper, I can never find it again!...

Don't forget to buy Slap. Best application ever for jotting down miscellaneous information on the fly! One of my personal favorites. :D

I ended up using MessagEase instead of G2, I hated the fact that it took 6 strokes to make a # sign, which I use in some of my passwords. :)

Having built-in Bluetooth and WiFi is definitely a major improvement from my old Clie NX80V where I had to switch stuff around to use WiFi in CF slot, and Bluetooth via BT Memory Stick.

Now if I could only get InfiniFile (seems unavailable now) or WiFiGenie (puts T|X into reboot loop) working on my T|X, I'd be golden!

So far loving it! Few cool thing:
-Take the SD card out of my Canon A520 digital camera, plug it in to the T|X and view a slide show! If nothing else, I will get a lot of use out of this. Also works with SD card from Panasonic Digital Video camera.
-Using TuSSH, log in to one of my Linux boxes and have a fully functional Secure SHell via WiFi. Not that I have to, but because I can. The Full Screen graffitti is a must for this application.
-VersaMail works great. I have it working with 3 of my e-mails so far.
-Web browser works ok, but I miss all the features of Firfox/Mozilla. Good for quick and dirty browsing of the web. Have to get used to doing only one thing at a time on a Palm. I have gotten to used to multiple screens, tasks, applications at the same time.
-Hotsync works great over WiFi, once you have done the initial setup via USB. The USB cable will get stowed until it is needed for something like a restoring after a hard reset. So now I have to add a wireless router to the stuff I lug around.

Still have to research using Linux to backup/restore via the network. Have not really looked in to it yet. WifileLT and SMBmate can not the Samba security I have set up. Have to look into that.

I have a lot of separate toys due to the fact that a 1 trick pony can do the trick a lot better than than a pony with lots of tricks. Taking movies with digital camera, do not come out as well as movies from digital video camera, vice versa. Sure they can both take movies and pictures, but the quality of the results are a lot better doing what they were designed for.

Found that all I had to do to use Linux/Jpilot to sync/backup over the network was to change the sync device from '/dev/usb/...' to 'net:' that is all. Works great. I still need to see if I can do it using an ad-hock network rather than carry a wireless router around.

I have my laptop on wireless right now, and will have to play around with gating wireless to ethernet once I get on a wired connection.

Needed to use Pi in a calculation. No Pi in calculator that I could find. I know it is always the last place you look, but I looked several times. Not being crazy trying to get different results from doing the same thing, I finally gave up.

No big deal. Taking the first 3 odd numbers twice (11 33 55) and dividing 355 by 113 gives a very close approximation to Pi. Most people use 22/7 if they have to do long hand or a calculator without Pi.

Is this a bug or a feechur in Calculator?

Poking around in the Calc, I see no Pi. Currently I am using SC-103PU (http://www.murinsel.at/pda/sc/SC-103PU/english/index.html) as my Calculator, which does have a Pi button. Also I have Pi memorized to 8 digits, which is enough for the vast majority of tasks. However, a way to compute Pi using Calc:
Set to Advanced Mode (If in Basic Mode, menu Options, Advanced Mode).
Set to Trig Mode (Menu Options, Trig).
Set to Radians (Menu Pref, Radians).
Find 4 times the arc tangent of 1 (1, aTan, X, 4, =).

Hmm, while looking for the link to SC-103PU (http://www.murinsel.at/pda/sc/SC-103PU/english/index.html), I discovered there has been an update. There is now a SC-123PU (http://www.murinsel.at/pda/sc/SC-123PU/english/index.html). I will have to take a look.

I use this calculator as my main calc and it has a pi button (for those times when 3.14 just won't do :p ) It's nice, it's free, it's even pretty :http://www.spacetimemobile.com/index.php?page=mycalculator

What about a million digits to check against?

BTW I found Pi in the calculator and a bunch of other neat CONstants! In TRIG mode on left column below EEx and above Sto is... Con. Not only Pi, but also constant C in m/s (not only a good idea, but it is the LAW!). also e, Avogadro's number, Molar volume, Standard Temperature/Pressure....
Now to go convert the speed of light from m/s to Furlongs per Fortnight!

why not just 22/7?

papitopaul

why not just 22/7?
Why not use a hammer for a screwdriver? 22/7 = 3.1428571428571... which is close, but off by .0012644892673... fine for doing something where the answer is close, but not quite good enough if you are shooting for Pluto, or even the moon.

One man's micrometer is another man's C-clamp.

I agree... remembering 22/7 is harder than remembering 3.14159265358979 -- and I remember that number even though I haven't actually had to use it for anything in around 10 years.
