Can anybody explain the following accident?:
My Clie crashed. The screen was dark, but the power LED was "on". No method to reset (hard, soft) had any effect. The "hold" button was not switched.
I had to wait until the battery was drained.
Then I had to backup everything (which was not too difficult because of BackupBuddy VFS).
What kind of system failure did I encounter?

- Bao The exact same thing happened to me once on my NR. I didn't feel like waiting for the battery to die on it's own, so I took the back off and unplugged the battery for a few seconds. I'm still not sure what caused it.

A bad one. Sorry couldn't resist. I wonder if you had a program that froze the machine as a black screen. I've had a program freeze things before, but I was always able to do a reset with no problems. Strange.

My experience with BBVFS has been a bit different. I have been unable to get it to coexist with MSMount, without crashes. Their web site was no help other than some vague refererence to problems with MSMount and they weren't even courteous enough to respond to my email about the issue. I use Cardbackup, which works flawlessly with MSMount and everything else on my Clie. It also allows up to 8 separate backups where BBVFS appears to only save one. The only thing about BBVFS that appealed to me was the encryption, but from reading some other posts, apparently that can also cause problems. I do have a registered copy of BBVFS, I just don't use it.

I had the same type of crash when I made a soft reset at the same time as the Crash hack already had started to reset the Clie.
I didn't wait for the battery to drain. Instead I tried and tried to do a hard reset until it worked (after holding down the resetbutton and the powerbutton for at least 10 seconds).

My Clie does work normally again.
I also tried to remove the battery. However, I was not "brave" enough: I opened the Clie on the left side, but I then I did not know what to do.

Happens, but not fatal, also make sure your key lock switch is in off, since the effect is the same. Otherwise i unplug the battery.

How can the battery be unplugged? What about the warranty?

to unplug remove the back panel, and pull the white battery plug out of the socket in the board, give it a few seconds to go to Sony heaven, and plug it back in. The dead will live again.

Don't worry about the warranty, you won't lose it. Even if it's obvious you were inside, at least i didn't.

however, the battery unplugging won't leave any signs.

What is the small panel on the lower right side of the Clie NR70V?
