Why is Palm TX better than its competition? Why Palm over PPCs, for instance?

:) Why have people here picked the PALM over the Pocket PC pdas? And is the Palm TX the best Palm pda available? (no treos please, just pdas) Is the Palm TX the only model of Palm in its price range? See I've bought one and picked it up over an HP 2495 or 2495B (with W Mobile 5.0). and I'm so please to have it I would not change it for anything (at the moment)

I believe the TX outdoes the Treo as well. The cramped keyboard and screen has no match to the TX's 3.8" screen and the optional keyboard you can get for it. You can get one for the Treo but its redundant and essentially a waste. The built-in WiFi and BT is amazing. I also like the non-network feeling I get when I use my TX because it allows me to select which carrier I want. Not that I have to select between certain carriers. Like for the 700w, only Verizon. Now the 700p is only Sprint and Verizon. Being a GSM person, I just love SIM cards and the ease to switch from one device to another without the network knowing. The fact that the Treo 700p lacks this annoys me and is partically the reason I will be getting a phone to complement my TX that will have EDGE on it along with a 2MP camera hopefully :).

"best" is relative and you can never say one thing is best for everyone. An old greyscale IIIx that runs on AAA would be way more useful in some situations. You could go years on a Costco bulk pack of AAAs. It would be a better choice PDA for a doctor in a third world country. Does that make is "best"? See my point? Somewhat silly, but often posed type of question.

The best? Nah the screen quality is what pushed me away, me being spoiled by sony I expect better color on other pda's though since Palm TX and lifedrive is currently being sold..I have to say yes just because there is nothing else to choose frome *Besides Treos :)*

BTW i love my TX and I think (Attention!: opinion comming!) that is way better than a PSP. Ok by this i mean that it uses the technology in a better form. Technology should help us, not waste our time. I cant imagine myself buying a PSP or NintendoDS and playing it for half n hour and after that get bored. I know you can do lots of thing with that but all is for nothing, is almost useless.

Now a handheld is something different. It organizes you, keeps contacts' information, you can read & write docs. do some calulations, browse internet, what else... and if you want entertainmen, why not listen to ur mp3 ogg or wav files, listen to internet radio, watch a video or an entire movie, and games offcourse ;)

My opinion when comparing the TX with other tech devices.

and i forgot, for a reasonable price for what you get!!!

I have bought and sold more gameboys and DS's than I can remember. It is the first thing to go (to GameStop) when I need money for a doctor. Truly. So that is an intriguing thought Church Punk. :D

Funny you say that, cause i agree, my brother owns a PSP, and i ridcule him to no end as a result, tied down by sony and their ideas of inovation (memory sticks!), the T|X has a psp beat in all areas but one, the Screen. the screen on a psp maybe lower res, but it sure is good looking, and big, with better contrast than a T|X screen. However a psp doesn't exactly slip into ones pocket, plus by comparison it's got poor battery life.

However as my brother always says "Can a T|X play pro evolution soccer?"

It's a unfair comparsion, but i would rather have my T|X anyday.

Music devices, Handhelds and Gaming devices cannot really be compared because they all specialize in their own areas. I may be able to play music on my PDA but not store a lot like an iPod can. I may be able to view my videos on the TX's larger screen but again cannot store a lot. It comes down to your personal need. Many people don't get PDAs if they need a video/audio device because the PDA does not specialize in those areas. It is also harder to get videos to view smoothly on a TX than an iPod w/ Video. Same for gaming, I can play Kirby Superstar and Super Mario Kart but can't play GTA Liberty Stories. So there are some benefits and losses. Luckily for me, I'm a person who is not an audiophile or a heavy gamer, so the PDA is perfect for me.

I have an Xbox for gaming, what works as a mobile gaming platform best for me is a Palm over a GBA etc. I want games that I don't have to switch carts, and that are good for 2 minutes at a time when I'm stuck in a line or waiting for my wife. Playing an epic GTA game on a handheld isn't my idea of fun at this point in time.

I had an iPod but rarely took it with me because music is all it does.I like having a plethora of possibilities open to me and my TX gives me exactly that.

yeah, exactly as i said, for us palm users the tx manages the technology in a useful way for our needs, thats why it is 'relatively' "relatively" (waaaay) better than other devices :)

yes and the TX is the best and remember its a small computer and will only get better, somday it will embarrass the gameboys and psps. Cheers.
