View Full Version : Suggestions for Postings?
Just a couple of thoughts....
IMHO, Only REGISTERED members should be able to post. This would help keep the forums 'leaner'. If someone has a legit question, comment or concern, take a few seconds and register. If you have something to say that you don't want people to know who you are, consider whether or not you really need/want to be posting it.
Also, limit threads to 100 or 250 or 500 posts max, (depending on the forum if possible). The inane wading through larger posts to get one piece of info can get frustrating at times. If people want to keep a discussion going longer (ahem, UDT folks...) start a 'Part 2, Part 3, etc...) It would definitely make browsing the forums and searching much faster.

I agree with the above... although the new version of the UDT will reach even 500 posts by the end of the day, easily
Cheers.

Also agree. Let anyone browse... but if you want to post, you should be required to register.

Now would be the right time to implement this very good idea.

Usually, people do not search the UDT threads.

I don't think they really have a choice... when you use the Search section of ClieSource it ends up searching through ALL the active threads available, including the Undead Thread... unfortunately, it doesn't take you directly to the first post with what you searched for in it. Instead it usually just takes you to the first post in the entire thread. Makes it pretty difficult to find the two or so posts you want in a thread over 100 posts long. Also, the search program on the server would slow down when it has to go through 3000 extra posts that happen to be in one thread...
Cheers.

Personally, I'd prefer 1 huge undead thread to 100 little ones.
Also, I like the idea of unregistered users being able to post. It seems like a lot of people come here seeking help, and, when they receive it, tend to register. I've seen it happen a couple of times since I got here (and that's how I ended up registering too).

Why not make a UDT Forum? ;)
Seriously though....as was stated so well by spradlinb, a search of all threads takes you to the first post in the thread, NOT the post with your search query. that sucks if you have to go through 10,000 posts (or even 500) just to find your query text.
also, as of late i had noticed that alot of the 'unregistered' posts have been either people looking for info that is (er, was) readily available by doing a search, or content with no value to the group.
my feeling is, if you own a Clie or are interested in info about the Clie, register. once you do so, you don't have to use it again (although you probably will). :)
