If I take some movie shots from any of the Sony Cybershots, will I be able to view them on my TG-50??? It seems to me it's a yes... right???

I asked that becuase I would like to buy one, but I won't buy FX77 coz there's no optical zoom...:( Do you all have any suggestions of which Cybershot I shall get??? I want the range be around 3-4 MegaPixels...

THANKS:cool:

I don't have a Cybershot but I found that in the HTML CLIE Application Manual, the MPEG movies shot by Cybershot or Handycam are said to be placed in folder /MSSONY/MOML0001/. I think movies could be viewed in CLIE.

I was a Sony Mavica user some years ago but the image quality is not very good -- everybody in the picture has a blue face. I know Sony has improved the image quality now but I use Cannon now.

yes, the pictures as well as movie clips should play just fine as long as you put them in the right patch as mentioned by ngwailung. Actually I've been thinking about getting one of those smallest size CyberShot U just for fun sakes. And would be a nice combination to go along with the Clie too! :D

I own a Cybershot DSC-P71 and those "hires" mpgs do not work. I can view them as a slide show: picture after picture... 160 x 112 work well but the resolution kinda sucks ;-)

I know that you cannot, with the Clie T615, unless you load an MPG player. The included Gmedai doesn't support playback of mpgs, but as far as I know the movie player on the TG-50 plays both palm formats, and MPG. Goto best buy, with a memory stick and try it...thats what i did!

I may be able to put your question to rest.

I have the Cybershot DSC-P9 and the GT50. I have, without the patch, viewed both images and mpg movies on my clie (incl. hi-res). I really like being able to take the MS directly out of my camera and insert it into my clie, having full functionality. The thumbnails for the photos are a little slow to load up but the movie clips play surprisingly well. I was really impressed. Both pictures and videos look really good when view on the clie.

Does any Sony Cybershot camera support MS Pro? I think that really matters.

Would you be able to recommend a good MPG player?

I have the Sony Cybershot DSC-P72, and the Sony Clie NX60.
I take pictures with the Cybershot, and put the MS into the NX60, the pictures show up, no problem. Works great.

however, the MPEG movies taken w/ the Cybershot show up on the NX60, but they will not play. The screen just goes black, and then error which causes the NX60 to reset.

I am completely baffled by this, and can figure out why it won't work. Very frustrating.

I think the new cameras use the mpeg VX or something (it's written on the camera) i think it's a enw codec, that's not compatible.

I have the same hardware and it works beautifully. Please attempt to change your settings for movie mode. You might have it GIF or Slideshow mode, not MPG. The 320 x 240 out of the 71 looks great, albeit a bit choppy.

Look in the video forum for the Matrix thread. It explains how to get the video to work.

That is really strange. The settings of the CS-P71 are definitely correct. Strange! First I thought it might be due to the fact that I have a TG50/U and a german CS-P71. But I changed to ntsc and no difference...

I use Cybershot U and TG50.
Just take the MS from the camera and drop it in the TG50. Look at pics and play movies right from Clie Viewer - no problem

Well if this is true, anyone know how to convert a CYbershot MPEG VX to just regular old MPEG? Can I do it on the camera before recording (this would be very convenient), or do I have to mess around with saving it to my computer first, coverting, then saving back to the MS (pita)

I had a NZ90 but sold it recently.

In replacement I got a TG50 for many reasons over the NZ90 and to compensate for the lack of camera, I got a Sony P8.

I can make video clips with it and easily see on the TG50 and yes it is MSPro compatible.

I need to modify my previous post regarding the viewing of pictures and videos on my TG50.

From my P5, I can view all pictures and videos flawlessly (even without the patch).

With the P8 (using MSPRO), I can view all pictures and ONLY the low quality video format. The new high quality video format will not play (even with the patch) and I'm not sure why or whether anything can be done about it.

I'm also having trouble playing MPGs from my MS-Pro that I had no trouble with when they were on a regular 128 MS. Is this a documented issue? Has anyone gotten flawless mpg playback from MSPRO?

First off, I have an NX, not a TG.

I also have the p72, and like Slim08 I can only play movies recorded in the lower resolution. When I attempt to play movies recorded in 640 x 480 resolution I get an error:

SonyHRLib.c, Line:869,
Insufficient work memory

I suppose the buffer is too small for movies of that resolution?

Also, I noticed that the fps seems better in movies taken with the clie than my p72.. the resulting video looks smoother.. too bad there isn't a 320 x 240 mode.. maybe the next clie? :)

dannyboy, so 600x480 recordings from a cybershot wont work on your tg50??? that really sucks! i know your option is only 600x480 and 160x120. somehow they brilliantly took out the 320x240 and replaced with a useles 160.

DSC-P72 CYBERSHOT & NX60 I have the Sony Cybershot DSC-P72, and the Sony Clie NX60.

My Cyber Shot F717 movies work fine in my NZ90, without conversion, but like you, I had a problem with the movies taken in the P72 because they are 640x480.  I found I had to first convert them using the Image Converter supplied with my NZ90.  The only other way they would work was if I used a video program, such as Sony's "Movie Shaker" or Sony's "Image MIxer" to save the Cyber Shot movie to MPEG1 format at 320x240 -then it would play fine in the Clie.

It was a disappointment to learn that I couldn't play the 640x480 movies right from the MS without converting them to the smaller 320x240, because that was the main reason I bought the P72 camera - I wanted to get the larger format MPEG's!

Oh well..
