Hi,

Just wanted to ask if the people who have the NX70 and 60 can tell me if it they ever had "falling" experiances with the clie's and if the NX's survived the ordeal...

My old N760 fell once 2 feet on a carpet and broke...
is the NX stronger?....

I have dropped my NX70 from waist high onto concrete and it didn't break, everything worked fine. Thing is I had it in an aluminum case though. But still, it was a hefty fall I think.

About 120cm, stone floor. Not even a scratch (without case).

wiped out on my bike and no damage to report... I have the Sony pouch for the unit which is quite padded.....

CopyCat, nice to see you've got the new thumbnail picture with the CF card there! :D

wow, you guys really had quite a BANG with your NXs with the cases presented above. With the alluminum casing I can still see why, but without case to a stone floor without a scratch, wow, I'm left speechless.
I often find the NX quite fragile, especially the joint where the flip screen is only attached but one tiny piece. I wouldn't even dare think of such cases happening to my NX. I love my NX too much, always in its' OEM pouch, like a baby in a cradle. Perhaps too protective. Well afterall, it's quite a nice piece.

Look after your Clie and it will look after you.....

In theory the 'hing' will pop out before actually snapping... it should then be possible to take the screen section appart and put it all back together.... but of course that is just a theory based on what I have seen on the web site disection of the NX

I've stashed all my Clie's in an Otter Box product.... #2000 http://www.otterbox.com/sizes.html As a demo, I'll drop it from waste high. Some times the MS may pop out but there's no damage to the Clie itself. Tough little cases. I ride 'em hard, and put 'em up wet..... If they can't survive ME, they have no place in my world!

It's definitely NOT unbreakable! I was fortunate that mine survived a fall out of my jacket pocket onto the hard concrete garage floor. This occured during the first week of acquisition and made me sick. Fortunately all is okay except for some minor scrapes on the side. That happened last October :).

Best Buy has an excellent "extended" warranty as an add on when you first purchase an item. I prepayed for my first NR70 before they hit the shelves in May of '02. It had some problems and there was NO hassle when I returned it for a new one. They may have since changed the policy but there have been no fist fights between them and me...... to date! For an item as delicate and new as the Clie it's money well spent......ESPECIALLY if you are the "ride 'em hard, put 'em up wet" type user.....like me.

It fell about 4 feet to a concrete not a scratch, no damage seen so far. Was in an aluminum case.
Slipped on the ice several times and fell onto it while it was in my pocket |/_
metal case again, not a scratch or any damage
ran over it with my bike, ( it fell out of my pants pocket, fogot to take it out), no damage to the Clie but the metal case is scratched up now. I am so glad I got the metal case.

In My experience very fragile. The one time it fell was onto a floor with thin carpet and it cracked in the hinge area. There is a reason they include a hand strap. In comparison I dropped my T615c many times with no damage.

Mine fell ~4 feet while it was clipped to my shorts, doing push-ups on parallel bars. The MS popped out, but that was about it. Of course, it was in a Bellagio case (which I absolutely love)....

The 2 year extended warranties are a great idea, especially for something this expensive. The 2-year warranty package from CompUSA features 1 free screen replacement, 3 months free tech service, a registration from stuffbak.com (u lose the item, someone finding it can return it thru shipping locations for free, they get a reward). The best part of the warranty is the ability to upgrade to newer PDA's by paying just the difference in original price between the new unit and what you paid for what you have. That warranty was 99$.

When leaning over, my NX60 fell out of my shirt pocket onto a ceramic tile floor from 18"-24". This was only 2 weeks ago when it was about 2 weeks old - - my blood ran cold! The memory stick ejected, and I've found two very small marks on the (closed, thank goodness) clamshell case, but it seems fine other than that. I've been actively researching cases here at ClieSource since, and will be ordering one this weekend.
