View Full Version : T5 Total Power Failure

This morning, my T5 wouldn't switch on, not with the power button or any of the hot buttons - nor would it reset. PANIC!!!!!
Plugged into the power and, after a few minutes, it started its warm reset routine and everything back to normal - except that the battery indicator show 0%. Five minutes later and it's up to 20%, so charging is under way.
It was fine last night. Anyone experienced this?
May be sudden battery failure, which will need a replacement - if so, any recommendations?

I had a similar thing a week or so ago. The morning after a full recharge my T5 wouldn't turn on. No buttons worked. I connected it to the juice and after a few minutes I saw the screen; abt 20% of power and charging. Fortunately, no data was lost, but in all, it seems pretty frustrating, especially as I've had the T5 for alittle more than a year.
Is that the battery dying?

Mine hadn't been charged for a day and was down to about 80% when I last used it yesterday evening - other than that, we seem to have had the same experience. My T5 is barely a year old, too!
Now fully charged and holding 100% - I'm going to keep an eye on the battery level for the time being. Could be a battery dying - I've ordered up a replacement (~£16 so not a big cost for a little insurance - better to have it to hand than having to wait a couple days if the existing battery dies totally).

No Palmary Clock - nothing to interfere with the 3 min auto-off.
It's held its power at 100% for the past 6 hours, with just occasional useage. Strange!

I had a very similar problem, perhaps one morning a week I'd try to turn on my T5 to find the battery dead. After a few mins on the charger it would start without data loss, but the brightness slider would be all the way to the right. I narrowed it down to an overnight backup with Backupman. Perhaps it was crashing or similar, never did find the full cause, just set the backup to working during breakfast so I could keep an eye on it. Hmmm...

Did you have 2 alarms set to go off at the exactly the same time? Or did you have a program that is set to start the moment the palm is switch on *plus* an alarm. I noticed that when ever 2 events are set to trigger in the palm at the same time, it will freeze the T%. These combinations will stop the T5 in its tract and will require a reset to get it started or if not caught early will result in complete battery drainage.

This might be it, Gary. I can't recall just now if I had an alarm that night, but I definitely have automatic backup made every night and there could be some coincidence of these events.
I'll try to reproduce it.

No alarms were set on mine. However, since that one failure, it's been fine. I also now have a spare battery ready to install if it does happen again!!

I suspect my midnight backup might have coincided with some untimed alarm (going off at midnight too).

I know it isn't the battery. The unit must have crashed somehow, and stayed on until the battery drained.

Well, two weeks on and it's been behaving itself power-wise. Still, I've now got a replacement battery for when the current one does fail ;)
