anyone knows what is the approximate lifespan of the NX80V?
have mine for like 2 and 1/2 years... battery is fast to deplete...does this mean time to change new batteries? if yes, where and how much is it?

Have had mine for a couple of years also. Paint job looks a bit tatty now, the power switch broke off and the screen hinge is a bit loose. Apart from that, it's working fine, still with the original battery and the camera has given me no trouble.
Should last me another couple of years, I hope, with a bit of TLC. Bought 2 TH55s recently, to be on the safe side!
Batteries are available on the net (http://www.cliebattery.com/), at a reasonable price. I buy them from an obscure shop in Hong Kong, which still has good batteries in stock (USD18.00).

Ordered my NX-80 pre-release from Sony; that puts it in that 2.5+ year age frame. I had a hinge problem that was corrected under warranty where the screen image would not rotate when the screen orientation was changed. Replaced the battery with one from Laptops for Less about four months ago. Amazing difference with the new battery. Camera crapped out nearly a year ago. Finally decided to send it to Sony for repair last month. Also had the screen replaced (never got around to using a screen protector). Received the unit within one week and it is almost like new again. The first thing I did was install a Martin Fields screen protector. I can see it lasting for another several years, or, until some other gadget really captures my fancy.
My father still uses my old N610 as a backup for the NX-80 I bought for him last year. The N610 is probably five years old by now. As long as you take care of these handhelds, I imagine they can work for many years.

Yes, a screen protector is a must on these machines. I also found out the hard way!
What did Sony charge you for the screen replacement?
My wife's 3 1/2 year old NR70V is still in one piece and going strong, but on its second battery now. The screen swivel is a bit loose and the hinge has a bit too much friction.

About $165 (includes return shipping) for a Tier One repair which essentially includes just about anything wrong with the unit. They replaced the camera CCD and the screen. Service was fast and efficient. You would have to call them for a quote on an NR series Clie.

I got my NX-80 a few months after release and other than the paint job looking like hell it is in perfect working order. I use it daily for PIM with the original screen protector I got for it (Brando) and no extra case/holder. It just rolls around in my pocket with my wallet.

I've had my NX80 two years in June and the only issue I have is the broken power switch. The screen is still brilliant, the hinge is still firm and the case has only minor scuff marks where the MS's I keep inside the Krussell case touch the back of the screen. I use Default Capture to map the camera button as a power switch. Apart from that it's still great to use and serves me well.

I have had my NX70V for three years since Feb '03. It is my second one after my first was stolen. I have yet to replace the battery and paint is still in near mint condition. The camera works great apart from using digital zoom sometimes freezes the screen but when I unzoom it it goes back to normal. This problem could be because of the massive heap space that I am using for different large programs though. I don't know what I will do without my CLIE. I have wanted to pick up a brand new TH55, but can only find used ones on eBay. Anyone have any tips?
My tips for keeping your CLIE spic and span and working are listed below:
*Periodically clean dust out of grooves with air duster
*Always keep a Bellagio or Vaja case on the sucker (aluminum plate sewn into the leather keeps my baby safe)
*Always keep your eyes on your CLIE or else it could fall prey to a jealous thief
*I don't use a screen protector as I don't like something obstructing my view or wearing down my stylus as if the screen protector was sandpaper
*Periodically (or when you keep getting recurring system errors), format your CLIE and reinstall your core apps while removing those you use least frequently
*Always try to learn more about your device
*Never use harsh cleaning agents on your device
*Don't get tempted to sell it for a new Palm or Windows Mobile device (they don't add anything but more memory or (what Palm calls processor speed). My fiance's Palm T|X's lag time makes my 200 Mhz NX70V look like a supercomputer in comparison

That is not a good way to preserve its life though!!!
