I have seen several threads that mention an aplication that can assign icons. I have a Clie TJ27. I have been searching for this program on the web, but to do avail. It was mentioned as freeware. Is the app still available and if so where?

I saw that, but it mentioned OS5. The Clie TH27 has OS 5.2.1 so I was afraid it would not work. Reading futher, it appears that some of the functions will work. Thank you for you prompt reply. I will give it a try.

Sister, I loaded AppIcon on my Palm Tungsten E2 (OS 5.4.7) and the only feature that will not work is the "edit icons" feature. You can assign new icons without problems. (You can either download ones-- many free ones out there too, or else duplicate an icon from a different application you already have). The only functionality you don't have is the ability to modify the icons (change colors, add lines, etc.). And if you do accidentally try to do so, it will result in a soft reset, but no harm done. At least that was my experience. I encourage you to try it out.

I didn't have any luck with this app on my Treo 650, just in case others are looking to try the same setup. It would cause a soft reset on launch, and no, I didn't try to edit any icons ;)

Others may have gotten it to work with a Treo, but I didn't. Just my $0.02

On a side note, what are others using for changing icons on their OS 5 Palms?

I currently use AppIcon v1.0. I kept getting reset when trying to use AppIcon v1.3 on my TX. It works to change all of the icons except for the RAM icons. I'm waiting and hoping that IconsPlus will work on my TX with the next version. I've written the developers and they say they are trying to fix the problems. It looks like a great app to allow for the changing of all your icons (RAM and ROM)

I was successful in loading and using AppIcon 1.3. I have one last question. I downloaded (2) sets of icons from your web site. Can these be placed on the memory card and if so, is there a "proper" directory for them?

I got AppIcon v1.0 with the SharkLinks Icon set http://www.1src.com/freeware/fileinfo.php?id=1486

Sister, I don't have AppIcon loaded on my Palm at this moment, but my memory is that the icons have to be loaded into RAM. After you're done making the icon changes you want, you actually can delete AppIcon and the files with the icons. (AppIcon creates some independent "overlay" files that tie the new icon to your apps). Since I don't need to be wasting RAM space with AppIcon or the icons themselves, I created a folder on my SD Card and called it "Apps Storage" with an "AppIcon" folder below that, and I keep the program and the icons files there. If I ever do want them, I can copy them back to RAM by myself, and they are accessible but not hogging RAM space.

Hi, just to let everybody know, I had tried AppIcon 1.3 on my LifeDrive and it would always cause a soft reset as soon as I tried to open it. I downloaded the 1.0 version and it works great on my LifeDrive. I won't try to edit icons but it will change them with no problems. Torsten has some great AppIcon sets on his website www.bryceart.de. Crystal and Noia. Cindy.

I would also like to report success on a Treo 650 (unlocked with Cingular firmware) using version 1.0 of AppIcon. As previously mentioned, I will NOT be editing any icons, only changing the current icons with new ones! Hooray!

Once you import an appicon set, you do not need to keep the original iconset. The appicon database itself contains them and grows as you add/delete icons. Therefore, you should delete individual icons you don't like or know you'll never use, to decrease the amount of RAM appicon takes up.

If you backup your RAM, you don't need the iconset (once imported) at all. ;)

I've downloaded the ver 1.0 (the one that comes with SharkLinks Icon set) to my TX but is it low-res (colors)? Maybe it was my error to send it to my Palm via Bluetooth ^^. I uninstalled it and installed it again, this time with Hotsync but it remained the same :(

I want to try this program to upload an IconSet, but if it doesnt support hi-res then I wont be importing anything for this program...

Does anyone have links to AppIcon icon sets? I had some a long time ago but seem to have lost them. I tried a search and can't seem to find any. I have the ones from bryceart and the sharklinks but that's about it. Thanks, Cindy.

@ pippadid - The bryceart icons and the SharkLink icons are the only set that I have. I've tried to find others but no luck. The 1.3 version of AppIcon supposedly allows for the import of icon sets but since this version resets my TX - I guess I'll never know...

This is why I'm really hoping that the developers of IconsPlus can get everything working properly. That app really shows promise in the ability to give me complete control over ALL my icons. :)

An alternative to AppIcons might be ChangeMe (http://palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=105690) by Pierre-Yves Tavernier. It exchanges the Icon of Apps among themselves but it can't set icons out of e.g. a database.

I wasnt saying the icon pack was in low res, but the program as a whole. It is displayed in low res mode (the whole screen changes to low disp.) I dont know why. But I think the problem is because I installed it through bluetooth. I say this because I have another app that is supposed to be also in Hi res but it is just like AppIcon and I've realized that it was installed through bluetooth as well. I use to install databases with BT cuz is way easier than a hotsync operation. But I maybe it is not recomendable to install applications this way, my bad... Now I have no idea how to change this. I try to unistall and install it again but no avail. I was thinking about a hard reset but maybe there is another way to change this. Any ideas?

First post here but I've been reading this great Forum for a while.
I'm part of the French Palm community (Palmattitude.org (http://www.palmattitude.org) ) and I'm amazed by the diversity of software discussed here. As mentionned in this post, I used to have ChangeMe (http://www.payalba.com/download.php?rep=PalmPRC&&fic=ChangeMe) on my Palm T5 to switch program icons among installed applications. I just discovered Appicon here and find the possibility to display an icon from an iconset really great. Unfortunately, only V1.0 seems to work on my T5 and the number of iconsets found throughout the net is very slim :(
I would love to be abble to use in Appicon V1.0 some sets that I use with ZLauncher, and this night an idea came up in my mind :) : why not ask someone using Appicon V1.3 on his older palm (Sony for example) to load the following Zlauncher iconsets, import them in Appicon V1.3, backup the Appicon DB from his Palm and post it in return on the Forum... I know it is a bit of a charge, but this is the only methodology I found for a T3/T5/TX user to have a Gant Appicon iconset on his unit.

Is someone ready to help the community in general (and me in particular ;) )?
Here are 2 ZLauncher Iconsets to test the method...
- ZLI_PalmOS5.prc (http://www.zztechs.com/en/download.php) : Included in the ZLauncher zip, to finally switch to beautiful hi-res icon for PIM Apps (I really, really miss them...)
- D_Ganticons2.prc (http://www.1src.com/freeware/fileinfo.php?id=1397) : the most comprehensive Gant iconset found for ZLauncher, just here. Thanks DBH

I've just loaded v1.3 on my T5 and it hasn't (yet - touch wood) crashed.

Edit: it obviously wasn't wood I touched! I ambitiously installed Agendus 11.04 and AppIcon 1.3 at the same time. My T5 went into a tail spin. I got it back in to safe mode and deleted Agendus and AppIcon. I then did a zero out reset as I was still in a reset loop. I followed that with an attempt at a full system restore from BackupBuddy. That kept crashing so I restored all my apps individually and I'm back where I was (but with Agendus re-installed).

Do I try AppIcon 1.1?????

I was never able to get Version 1.3 to run on my Garnet devices ( TX, T3) but it does run on my m515. Version 1.0 works great on my TX and T3. I use the m515 to convert Zlauncher iconsets (import) to appicon sets. Then load them onto my TX and use version 1.0 to modify the icons. (An ambitious person could also use Bird to tweak icons). Version 1.0 is made for lo-res device so it will display as 320x320 and not be hi-res. Don't worry, since when you swap an app out it uses the appropriate hi-res image. Appicon is a staple on my TX and am grateful it exists and that I stioll have a pre-garnet device to convert ZL iconsets. Anyone who likes Appicon should check out Bird, as it allows you to copy/past images from one .prc to another. Very useful. Even though I always use the expansive Mac OSX iconset I always replace the folder and basic icons with whatever theme I am using at the time (currently Xenomorph).
