I have 2 SJ30s and an SJ20 whose digitizers were replaced. I have been having problems since they were "repaired". The SJ30s have "hot spots" where tapping in one particular area of the Apps icon gets you the mapped Calc function, and tapping one particular area of the Menu icon gets you the mapped Find function. On the SJ20, I'm speculating these same areas are "dead spots": there's no reaction when these areas are tapped.

All three Clies have suffered some type of digitizer blackout: there's no reaction from tapping anywhere on the glass. I have not been able to generate the blackout at will, nor have I been able to restore functionality despite power off-and-ons and all three types of resets (and I think I may have even used a "debug?" reset - I held the "down" button for this one). Sometimes "Mad Digitizer Syndrome" kicks in, too, requiring recalibration.

I haven't dropped any of the three Clies, and one of them basically never left the house since repair. All these behaviors are coming with no additional software/hacks/apps added - they're all fresh from hard resets.

The guy who repaired them for me has indicated he hasn't seen the problem with any other Clies he's repaired. He's already replaced the digitizer on of the SJ30's a second time, but the symptoms still appear.

I'm frustrated because sometimes, all I can show him is an unresponsive digitizer. He may as well believe that the glass is cracked, which won't help my case at all.

I'm still thinking I got a bad batch of glass. Think it could be a bad lot of Clies, too?

Recently, my SJ20 also has problem with it's digiter. When I draw a line, it doens't show the path I draw but is distorted. I took it to Sony Customer Service and they replaced it with a new set of LCD for me within 3 days.
I do think there are some problems with SJ20 LCD. Because when i buy it after few days, I found that it doesn't display uniform "grayscale" and there are some lines of darker/brighter too. I returned this one to the shop and they gave me a new one. But it also has similar problem after 3 months.

Try AK Stylus Test to confirm.

http://www.akeysoft.com

My SJ30 has the same problem. When I run the stylus test, and point my stylus to the left edges of the Home slikscreen, the stylus test program showed my "cursor" is actually on the right edges of the screen. :0

I wouldn't worry though, no big deal unless you are doing CAD on your PDA. ;)

the app/calc and menu/find issue is present on a *lot* of SJ20's and 30's, i know both of the SJ30's i've owned have had it. the digitizer on my first SJ30 also had the digitizer drift problem, where the digitizer wasn't registering the correct location of the pressure on the screen. it eventually became unusable, and i bought a new one. i will probably get the first one replaced by sony, but it's not really worth it. i'm also worried they'll decide it was my fault and charge me to repair a device i don't even use anymore. but, yeah, the SJ digitizer is a little whacked by nature.

I am using for about 4 month now, and I don't seem to have the problem with digitizer you mentioned.

I tried AKStylusTest and it worked fine.

Looks like my CLIE is the lucky one. :D

I was able to load AKStylusTest on the SJ20 and one SJ30 (I still can't bring the other one past the Welcome program). On the SJ30, when the screen says "Tap the screen to begin testing", nothing happens when I tap, anywhere. On the SJ20, after calibrating the digitizer, the crosshairs lie underneath the stylus. After powering off and on again, however, mad digitizer syndrome kicks in: the crosshairs lie above and just to the left of the stylus tip. The vertical drift is worst towards the bottom of the screen.

I'm most worried and concerned about the digitizer blackouts (which also happened on the SJ20 during the AKStylusTest). Any more thoughts?

Just as before ... tap and hold produce no reaction on the SJ30. Are there any other places other than palmpilotupgrade that can replace a digitizer?

I also have this problem with my digitizer.... it's EXTREMELY annoying to say the least..... is the only solution to return my SJ20 to sony??

Greetings!

I own an NX80, but I also have an SJ30. I have never had the SJ30 digitizer work quite right, it has required recalibration with the startup program every few days to just keep it semi-usable. I also have to "cheat" a little bit and press the stylus just below the lower target for it to register correctly. Kind of strange - but I've gotten used to it.

The NX80, on the otherhand, seems to have a near-perfect digitizer. Hopefully this is the way all future Sony digitizers will be!

Best regards,
Bawko

I have a clie T615 and after I broke the screen I got a new one. Got it replaced off a website mentioned here, then it stopped working. Had it replaced again, same problem. Now it is stuck on the calibration tap screen and makes a sound that I am tapping, but nothing else! anyone know how to get past this??? The guy who fixed it claims he doesn't see this other than mine. This has been 6 months of not being able to use it because I'm always waiting to get it fixed or waiting for my $$ to come in from school so I can get it fixed!
