View Full Version : My NX70V and Linux?
Trick

Hello everyone. I just got my NX70V about 3 weeks ago and everything is going just peachy so far. (recommendation to those who may be wanting to get one, i got mine on ebay for about $400US) Anyways, I'm now an avid Linux user (RedHat 8) and really want to get my clie recognized and syncing with my computer. It is very frustrating going back and forth from partition to partition. I have tried to at least recognize the MS but have failed at that also.
[root@zeus dev]# mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/clie
mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device
I know there is a linux forum here but there are no posts in there and this may be specific to my model. If there is ANYONE out there with suggestions, it is greatly appreciated. Thank You!!

There are posts in the Linux forum, you just need to go back 30 days or so. There are numerous threads about mounting the memory stick from Linux, bottom line is no one has done it from an OS5 Clie. Best bet is to get a cheap USB memory stick reader, those seem to work great under Linux and will also be faster.

I spent MANY hours on this over the last few months. Been active linux user since early 90's. I gave up. I can synch my S360 with mandrake 9 and KDE 3, for sync w/jpilot (limited use).
I have read some have synched NX, but I think they're using Gnome, not KDE. I can get the MS stick recognized as device sda1, but file format is not recognized.
I know how you feel. It sucks that I have to reboot just to sync my $500 pda.
CLIE PEG-NX70V device ID ?kernel source ? drivers/usb/serial/visor.c ?add (table ? { USB_DEVICE(SONY_VENDOR_ID, SONY_CLIE_5_0_ID) }, ?add?? SONY_CLIE_5_0_ID ? 0x00da ???)??pilot-xfer ????? ttyUSB1(PalmOS4 ??? ttyUSB0(?))?????????HotSync
this is what i have found, hope u find this helpful..
good luck decoding the japanese

I have my NX working fine in Linux - I'm able to sync using Jpilot or the KDE kpilot suite, or with Evolution. The only thing I can't do is use Coldsync or mount the MS via the Clie - I have to use a USB memory stick reader.
See http://plg.uwaterloo.ca/~migod/techie/clieLinux.html for details.
