The "power" LED and "lightning icon" both show that my TH55 is charging when it's connected to an AC10 charger. However, I get no such indicators when I am connected via USB, i.e. PC, auto, or wall outlet USB connections. Does your '55 show any indication of charging via USB?

As far as I know, USB-only connection to the PC does not charge the TH.

I sure hope that's not the case. I want to find a way to charge in the car, and travel without the AC10.

the Clies cannot be charged with the standard USB Cable Adapter comes with most Clies.
You have to use a 3rd party cable.

Doh! That explains it! Darn, I was hoping to not have to buy one.

Confirmed - You need to buy a different USB cable.
The little dongle that comes with the TH55 does NOT have the power pins wired into the USB (Because this would be potentially dangerous if you plugged the AC adaptor in at the same time!).
I have a cable I bought from Proporta about 4 years ago for my T625, and have been using it in all the Clie's I've owned so far because unlike Palm, Sony have maintained a quasi-standard connector over the years (T-Series connector FTW! :D)
NB: Just so you know, USB ports can only supply 5v max, so charging your TH via USB port will take a LOT longer than from the AC adaptor. I treat it as a supplimental trickle-charge for when I'm at work.

I have a usb charger / synch cable in one and find it really handy because when I'm away I always have access to a pc or my laptop for charging.
On the one I bought the power light comes on (top left) but my battery icon on the screen does not show that a charge in ongoing. I also find charging through the usb to be very slow, but it better than nothing when you need it.
hope that helps you

One observation: charging from an 'unpowered' (can source 100mA max if designed to the spec) port may not allow you to charge a very flat cell and use the device simultaneously.
I found this out when trying to bring an ex-demo unit back to life in a shop, with my trusty charge/sync cable, prior to purchase. As Clies only have a basic onboard USB interface, they cannot request additional current. So, it'll charge, but stop when you turn it on. Perhaps. If you're unlucky. ;)
That USB-CLIE adapter is very cheap. I posted a compact USB-CLIE adapter that can be used for HotSync and charging at the same time in post #13 of this thread (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110297&page=1&pp=15). You can get in eBay for $9, including shipping.

Like this? ;)
That homemade stubby USB-CLIE adapter is pretty handy to have it in my pocket next to my TH. Now I can use my TH as a jumpdrive on any PC with XP with JAmerican's SCSI Library.prc in the TH RAM. You don't need to load SCSI driver from CLIE Installation CD any more. :D

Including shipping? I'm selling my stubby USB-CLIE adapter as shown in my previous post for $10 including shipping.
It is compact to fit in your pocket. You can always get USB extension cord separately, if your Laptop USB port is not as accessable as the ThinkPad T40.
nah...i bought it straight from an electronic store :)
