Hi

Just getting into using the mp3 player capabilities of my TX and realise I need to start using an expansion card to store any decent quantity of music.

Any views of the virtues of SD cards as opposed to MMCs? Do either work better with the TX/have any advantages/drawbacks? The prices seem roughly comparable from what I've seen so far.

Also can I transfer mp3 files straight from my PC to a card on the TX or do I have to have a card reader/writer on my PC, put the files on the card using that then put the card into the TX?

Sorry for the stupid newbie questions. Never used PDAs much beyond PIM functionality until now. Greatful for any help.

Thanks.

SD seems to be the standard these days. MMC should work but it's kind of faded into the background. I think when SD first came out it was meant to be used for DRM content but that never caught on so people just use them as they would MMC's.

It would be worth getting a card reader, they're cheap (less than $20) and a hell of a lot faster than transferring with Palm "quickinstall". Quickinstall is s-s-s-s-l-l-l-l-l-l-o-o-o-o-o-w-w-w-w-w transferring MP3's, trust me. There's also software you can get that let's the TX appear as a card reader for it's SD card. I'd still recommend a card reader though.

As far as I know, the main difference is that MMC cards don't have a controller chip and they're slower than SD cards.

Thanks guys.

Next question then: anyone in the UK have any recommendations on SD cards and readers, where to go for decent kit at reasonable prices?

Not specifically since i'm in the States but buying online is generally the way to go for sd cards, and the prices just recently took a big dive so that's good news (I recently bought a 2GB card for $50). You can probably get a card reader cheaper online as well.

TBH, the differences are so miniscule on Palms that you can ignore them.

The only thing SD has over MMC is SDIO, which doesn't even come into Storage stuff.

Just get the cheapest biggest card you can afford that works in your PDA ;)

MMCs seem to be rarer in the UK; The only ones I have are a 1GB one I found in a camera a friend sold to me (Bwhaha!) and all my Zodiac game cartridges.
