okay, i already own a clie NX70V bought from sonystyle, works fine
i recently got a N770C from ebay ...and well it seems to be dead
I've tried everything suggested on the boards (soft reset, hard reset, hold button is off, charged for 6 hours non-stop)
the person who sold it to me says the battery was low when he sent it so i'm thinking it cud be a charger fault ?
my only concern is i cant exactly charge this with my NX charger as its not comptable ...ARGH !!
are there any ways i can check if this is the battery that is dead or the chargers fault ?
Charger is usually pretty hardy, so dead battery is suspected. However, you can check the charger and see if it puts out 5.7 VDC. For the N and S series (13-pin plug) the PWR (+) is pin #8 and 9, GND (-) is pin #13. See this euroclie site (http://euroclie.free.fr/Uk/cable.html) for pinout reference.

Ok, so how did i exactly check the charger to see if it puts out 5.7 VDC ?
The plug itself does state that it's 5.7 VDC one but I am not an engineer so I don't really know much else, I have contacted the seller but he hasn't replied yet.
I was thinking of getting a USB sync-charge cable to see if that helps ?
If it is Sony's charger, it is made fool-proof, which only 3 pins are exposed. The two pins near the center are power (+) and the one on one side is ground (-). You need to go to an electronic store like RadioShack and ask one of the guy there to check the voltage by a multimeter.
USB sync-harge cable don't do you any good if the battery is bad.
"USB sync-charge" is not good for charging N or S-series Clie with PC because the PC USB (at least my PC) only puts out 5.0 VDC, so the Clie would not ever get fully charged. Later models apparently are OK because Sony dropped the charging spec to 5.2 VDC, which is closed enough to PC USB charging voltage.
I have one of those 4-in-1 type sync-charge cable that can be used for HotSync, PC charging, AC (house) charging, 12VDC (car) charging. I have tested it myself. It is more like a 3-in-1 sync-charge cable, which is still OK price-wise compare to Sony brand. The house and car charger parts do put out 5.7 VDC. If you want to buy USB sync-charge cable, I would recommend to get that kind (4-in-1).

Well, i just wanted to see if it was a battery problem or charger problem.
Hence at least getting a sync-charge cable would let me know a little more about the problem and i cant' yet find an AC adaptor for that clie anywhere
I got the 4-in-1 sync-charge cable from eBay for $16.
