Is there any way to sync a TG-50 to OS X 10.2.5 without involving Missing Sync? First off its pretty lame that Sony pretends the Mac doesn't even exist.

My T615C syncs fine and always has done so, I have Palm Desktop 4.0 and it just works. I bought the TG-50 and wanted to migrate my data from the T615C, but I haven't even gotten that far because it won't sync. I press the HotSync button and nothing occurs on the computer. I can plug the T615C right into the same cradle and it works fine, so it appears to be the TG-50 that is the problem.

I am absolutely oppossed to buying the Missing Sync if I can't try it first. I cannot see anywhere on the site where it can be downloaded, just purchased. Maybe it would work but maybe it wouldn't and I don't feel I should need to spend 30 bucks just to get something working that should work already.

Any information on how to get this thing to sync would be greatly appreciated. I was close to returning the TG-50 anyway, but then I read a post about some apps that can make the keyboard usage easier and wanted to try them. Of course I can't sync, so I can't try them. My experience with the T615C has been great, but so far the TG-50 has been a major frustration.

Yes, there is a way, two ways in fact. If your mac has built-in Bluetooth or a USB version (I have the Belkin version) or if your Mac has an IR port. If your mac has an IR port, check the proper box in the application HotSync Manager. You will also need to configure your handheld to do an IR sync. It's just a matter of selecting "IR to a PC/Handheld" in the application HotSync on your Clie. If you want to do bluetooth, choose "Bluetooth" from the same menu.

I would highly reccomend The Missing Sync. IR and Bluetooth are painfully slow compared with USB. If I didn't buy The Missing Sync I probably would have taken my Clie back to the store. Also, how do you plan on transfering MP3s or Flash files to your handheld? For some reason HotSync doesn't like it when I do that. Get The Missing Sync and consider it part of the cost of Clie. You will be much happier.

I've discovered you need to have the TG50 on
before you press the HotSync button on the cradle, which I didn't have to do previously. I've had an N760C before, and just upgraded to 10.2.5, and everything works just fine. I've even got the cradle connected to another device with USB ports instead of going directly to my iMac.

Hope this helps . . .

Mugwump,

I purchased a TG-50 (Japanese version) two weeks ago and do not have to turn it on to make it sync. All I do is press the Sync button on the cradle, regardless if the TG-50 is on or not. I am using 10.2.5 also. I also am using the Missing Sync.

Any way you can give me a little helpful advice on syncing via BlueTooth? I have the 17 in PowerBook with BT and the TG-50. Both recognize each other. BUT where do I go to make them SYNC? BT Sync is turned on under HS Software Setup on the PB.

BT is on under system prefs too, and that is where they recognize each other.

Under "Sync" on my TG50 I am offered Local and Modem offered through 1. the cradle/cable 2. infrared.

I cannot find a button to "Sync" while in BT and both are recognizing each other.

BTW, I am only moderate in reading/writing Japanese, and my manual is total Japanese as well as the OS. I might be missing something from the manual.

Thanks for any help.

I believe that you have to create a new "Bluetooth" connection under the "Connections" section of your preferences on the PDA. The settings should be as follows: Name: "Bluetooth" (or whatever you want it to be), Connect to: "PC", Via: "Bluetooth", Device: (your computer). Under details, Speed: "115,200 bps", Flow Ctl: "Automatic". Then you should be able to choose "Bluetooth" as a HotSync connection in your PDA's HotSync app. Hope this helps!

:D Worked like a charm! Just like you said. THANKS!!!! :D

It was a little tough going through the menus in Japanese (for this American) but once I got to the right place, everything fell in just like you said.

Actually, I found BT in three different places. The key was "Connect to: PC". Once I found that, It was smooth sailing.

Thanks again.

BLUETOOTH is GREAT!

Konnichiwa, Hank-san -

Thanks for your comments the other day. I still don't get a reliable sync by putting the TG50 in the cradle and just hitting the sync button - maybe every 3rd or 4th time only.

Not sure why this is happening - it's the same setup (10.2.5, USB port on a digital audio processor) that worked forever with my N760C.

But my solution to turn it on still works . . . :) And if I leave it off, then sync and fail, then sync again (now that it's on), it works - ???

Maybe your Japanese version is better . . . :)

See ya in Osaka in early June ??

Launch the Conduit Manager on your computer manually. When it's open and ready press the hard button on the hotsync cradle. Works every time that way.
