I found this just a few minutes ago when I powered-up my C.

There's a funny gray area on the screen, which when I push on it, results in what you see in the picture. It still responds to stylus taps though, no problem.

I know it's the classic case of "then don't push there" but is this something I should worry about? Is the screen broken? Is it going to break? I got my C in 2003, so it is far out of warrantee, and anyway I live in Japan (though US model.)

What do people here think?

it won;t get worse if that's what you're asking but the gray area will get on your nerves. You must have presse don the screen really hard sometime

Yeah, that's what I was wondering. I'm hoping it doesn't get any worse, since I don't want to fork out to have the screen replaced. How much would a screen-replacement cost anyhow?

I guess so, although I can't remember doing so. I put it in a soft case and kept it in my pocket. Did I damage the LCD itself?

Well, I'm not sure if this helps, but when I was replacing a digitizer on a PDA, I accidently made smudges on the inside of the LCD, just below the digitizer, that look similar, although not wholly exact.

It looks like the actual LCD is damaged and not fixable. Is it only showing where the pixels are? Or random places?
