Hi all,

I'm hoping that someone can help me with a problem that's stumping me. I just changed over from a Clie NX to a Palm TX yesterday, and everything is working fine, except for one thing. I can't figure out how to transfer media over to the TX. I've tried transfering a jpeg, mp3, and a wmv using the Quick Install and also the Palm Desktop Media, and neither works. In Quick Install, I get the "unknown error" message. Everything else syncs fine from Outlook, Documents to Go, and Adobe Reader. It's just the audio/video that doesn't work. I've tried transferring to both the TX itself, and to a 1 GB Sandisk Ultra II SD, and no luck with either.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've tried searching this forum and palm support and haven't found any answers yet.

To be honest, I store most of my Media on an SD card - and I use a cheap and cheerful USB card reader/writer to get it there. I created a folder called MP3s and another called Videos (clever, huh?) and they live in the Palm folder on the SD card.

Further, I gather the most recent free update to Pocket Tunes, 3.1.5, adds a direct sync to Windows Media Player, though I've not tried it yet -

As for photos, I'm fairly confident I installed them via the Palm Desktop > Media and directed them to go to the SD card from there. It's been awhile...

Incidentally, I don't even think the Deluxe version of Pocket Tunes (or the freeware TCPMP) will play WMV. Sorry.

Thanks for the reply MleB. My next tact was to go out tomorrow and buy a card reader to see if putting the media on the SD directly works. I thought I read in some document that the files needed to be directly under DCIM though. If subfolders work for you though, I'll give it a try too.

In the case of the WMV, I wondered if it was compatible with the palm media player, but since the Quick Install program accepted it, I figured it was okay. I have some Avi's I can try, but since even jpegs and mp3s aren't working, I'm not optimistic.

Believe the wmv needs to be converted. The .mp3s could have DRM if purchased from an online store and would require Pocket Tunes Deluxe to play. The jpegs are installed through the Media desktop. To speed up Hotsync, set the Media conduit to Do Nothing and save as Default, changing to Synchronize only when you are changing pics. Use a card reader for the music and video.

Thanks, but there's no DRM on the mp3s I tried. They were ripped from an old CD and I have had no problems with burning the mp3s to CDs previously. I also tried to transfer an AVI from the Palm Desktop Media tool as well as a different JPG and it's still not working. I also made sure the Media conduit as set at synchronize.

I use PFB to transfer video, music and picture files from my PC to my PDA. It uses your Palm USB cable and a desktop program to allow you to see your PDA as an external drive (it's pretty much just like using a card reader only it's free). You can get it here if you're interested...

I use the stock Media viewer for pictures and transfer those files to the DCIM folder on my card. Video and Audio files are transfered to the respective folders on my SD card - but I use Aeroplayer and TCPMP and with those programs I can browse the card to find the files. If you are using other apps to listen to music or view video just check and see where the particular apps wants them stored.

I use PocketDivxEncoder...

Amazing software and free. High quality DivX on your PDA :). I also use TCPMP to view my videos.

I use a built-in 7-in-1 Floppy Drive/Card Reader to transfer data to my SD. Really convienient.

I think I have overlooked the obvious...Did you format the card in the TX? Palm-specific folders will be created.

Thanks for the help folks. I just went out and bought a card reader/writer, and directly transferred the files to the card. Bingo, it worked fine. So, for whatever reason, the Palm Desktop Media and the Quick Install just don't work for me. But, it sounds like most people don't use those programs anyway.
