I'm thinking of making the switch from Palm to cell phone, now that some can sync with calendars etc. The only thing I would really miss is ebooks. Is anyone using a book reader like Mobipocket on a cell phone? What are your impressions, good or bad?

I would think that reading a book on that small of a screen would be a horrible experience.

In addition to the loss of screen real estate I would be wary of a cellphone/featurephone and third party applications with media content (except the Treo or some other smartphone). From what I have been reading, carriers are interested in their revenue stream for this sort of content and you could be limited to their selections in your reading choices. I have also read that one carrier charges extra (monthly) for the ability to sync your calendar and contacts to their proprietary package. Be very careful and do your homework.

I can read ebooks on my nokia 3650. I use a freeware program called "ebook reader." It basically uses any ebook in *.pdb format. But I bought my nokia on ebay and it shuts off at random times even when the battery has juice so I'm thinking of getting another phone. BUt just thought I'd mention this so you know some of us are doing it. I'm currently reading "Ubik" by Philip K. Dick.

I don't know - the screen might be too small, though I was skeptical of video iPods and that works fine. Depends on clarity of the screen, and how long you can sit clutching a device with your neck down - my neck always killed after watching a show on my Ipod - especially on planes!

You may want to check out this mobile phone ebook reader (http://www.tx2ph.com).
The screen is rather small, but the text is quite readable
