Palm M500- screen doesn't respond to taps

My friend has an m500. It powers on and everything but the screen does not respond to stylus taps. The buttons work fine and the screen is not cracked. Any ideas? Is this easily fixable?

Try a hard reset: Keep the power button pressed, and using a paperclip, push the small button in the reset hole on the back. When the Palm logo comes up, release the power button and press the "up" button. THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON YOUR DEVICE. After that, you will be taken to a series of setup screens, including one where you can adjust the touchscreen.
