Hi,

i've intensively used my ux50 a few years ago, but i'ts been doing nothing for at least the past 12 months.

I won't use as a pda anymore, a few functions are lacking and won't enable to get most of it (i won't go into the details, that's not the point)

So now what could I do from it as a standalone device, eventually internet connected ?
- Photostand ? (any software able to display pictures from connected network ?)
- MP3 Player ? (any software able to display pictures from connected network ?)
- GPS navigator : got no car :/ is tomtom finally running on ux ? mapsonic got better ?
- What do you think ?

I still got the eb40 and ms256 for it.

Thanks for your ideas,

I assume you didn't get any answers...

Too sad, I too would like to know what to do with my UX50. The WiFi is busted (and I haven't yet found a screwdriver to see if I can fix the seating of the card manually), no Mapping program works reliably with it (Mapsonic and TomTom at least don't yet, to my knowledge) and the battery is really unusable these days.

It's a real shame, really. The machine hasn't dropped that much in price (in eBay) so it's still considered good and to me it's the best PDA that's ever been released with Palm on it (barring the battery problems). Even persistent issues like screen whining and lost WiFi functionality haven't detracted me from this idea.

It's a shame, really.

- MP3 Player ?

Even with standard battery, one can listen to 2 hrs of mp3s without a problem. So with your Eb40, it should last a decent amount of time. What you need is a 2GB memory stick, and you're all set. It might be a little heavy for gym use, but for everyday travel around, it should be okay.

I'd also start encoding your favorite videos so you can walk around watching music videos all day. Again, your EB40 will help you get okay time for it. I assume you use public transport for work, and is awesome.

I'd go and get a traveling charger/case so you can charge via USB anywhere you arrive, as to keep your battery topped up. From work/home with computers at both end, you should never run out of juice.

cOmmOn...

As far as software that will allow you to display pictures from a site where they are stored on the internet... have you tried SplashPhoto.

For software that will allow you to play MP3's, video's and display pictures I'd recommend JAmerican's Media Launcher! Do a search for it here... it's great software! JAmerican did a fantastic job!

Good Luck!
