Notice it is a 256mb with the same characteristics as all the other regular purple ones but 256 in size, and in stock!!! What does this mean? Will it run on our nx's or maybe even my F707 or Vaio laptop?

Do you have a picture or something? Or do you mean the new PRO sticks? because they look a tad different from the regular ones

Has to be the PRO stick, unless it is a typo or something. I thought Lexar made the pro sticks like Sony did (kind of orange from the pictures)

It is probably the new Memory Stick Select cards. Pretty much two 128s in a single housing.

Yeah, didn't think of that.

It should be a memory stick pro, because it would say 128x2 if it was the switchable one. And i believe Lexar makes it in the standard purple like they used to me. I think only sony uses the new look for their memory stick pro's.

Notice all of the ms selects say 128x2 like this other lexar, the purple one flat out says 256.

Yes, I believe it is the MS select. The picture in the ad is just wrong. I think the actual ms select says 2 X 128 mb on it, or something like that.

Well, lexar doesn't list their product numbers on their website but I would conjecture that is Lexar's form of the MS Pro due to the fact that it says nothing about any select functions. Unless the etailer is pretty stupid about listing the features, i would only assume they would list the information about the select function. LExar was supposed to retail a 256 MSPro's for appr. $99 so it could deffinately be this one, although i would suggest you call or email the etailer just to be sure.

Googling on _Lexar MS256 brings back te fact that these are indeed Select sticks. Also available as a bling-bling translucent purple with glowy green LED version :)
At the LAPUG on Saturday, Sony made the analogy of the MS Select being like a cassette tape - you need to pull it out, flick a switch (side a to side b), and reinsert. I wanted to make a comment that Sony had also incorporated autoreverse cassette mechanisms from an early day so that you didn't need to pull out the tape ... but thought better of it :D

The same retailer lists the Lexar MS Pro with a different part number and a higher price. The price for the 2x128 is about right.

I imagine you can compaire the given transfer rates to those of the first generation MS and MS Pro and tell whether it is select or not.
I know there was a pic (either photoshoped or preproduction) of a purple 256meg card. They could have grabbed this pic and stuck it on the retail page. Incorrectly of course.

I think that this must be the case.
It may just be my imagination but when I copied the picture of the memory stick at the above link and enlarged it - I think I can vaguely see the letters "Pro" just under the word "Stick". It might just be my eyes however.

Does anyone know where a pinout is of the ms pro, all the others original, magic gate and select only have 10 pins. That would answer this dilemma!
Features 10-Pin Socket Type, Average Access Speed 350K/sec, Voltage Operating 2.7 to 3.6V, Operating Temperature -10 to 65 degrees C

Rotorhead, if you look a little closer at the picture in your link you will see that just to the right of the 256MB script is written 128mbX2... sorry to burst the bubble but it is right there man.

Micro Vault from Sony is a line of ultra-compact, 'plug 'n' play' portable USB storage media that simply slips into a computer's USB port to act like another drive. No cables, no special driver software*, no adaptor and no external power are needed. Now this remarkably convenient and cost-effective system offers even more with the addition of a Memory Stick PRO reader/writer that can also be used with standard Memory Stick media.
